Probably the best book yet on the Voyager missions
Like another reviewer of this book, I am a great fan of the Voyager missions and count myself lucky to have lived through the era that produced these and other first exploratory missions to the planets. Of all the primary missions however, these were the greatest. There have been surprisingly few books devoted to the Voyager craft - an early one was written by Robin Kerrod and then Ben Evans and David Harland produced a more technical volume. However neither of these seemed to me to capture the essence of the technical triumph of the mission. This current book is a far better attempt and gives a very full technical account of the mission. In particular it gives an excellent account of the importance of the Gravity Assist technique and in particular Mike Minovitch's pioneering role, who not only recognised that gravity assist made it possible to reach the giant planets without an impossibly large rocket but also foresaw the grand tour. In previous accounts he usually gets only a mention before passing on to Garry Flandro's subsequent rediscovery of the grand tour. The book then continues with a very full technical account of the probes and their launch vehicle, the Titan III and describes the various technicalproblems that arose during the long flights together with their solution. So why only four stars? Well, first it is hurriedly written and much of the detailed technical explanation lacks clarity. This is not helped by the many typos. A lot of the detail comes from NASA files and is written at times as though the flights were in the future - no effort has been made to integrate these parts with the rest of the text. Finally I think a bigger display of the magnificent images obtained on these missions should have been included at full page size and in bright colour. The images shown are dull, small and tiny - there are no images of Europa or Miranda! Nevertheless I would thoroughly recommend this book to Voyager fans and also to a younger generation to whom the Voyager missions left Neptune before they were born.

A great review of the Voyager Missions
This is a great review of the Voyager missions.A bit too much space in the book was devoted to the content of the disk for my liking though. Some of this space could have been used for more images taken by the two probes.

Love these Haynes manua
This was very similar to new horizons only back in the 60s, the most famous space mission of all time. And I still discovered loads of information I didn't know about it.. That surprised me.!!!!

Out Of This World
I've followed the Voyager missions right from the beginning and this book is wonderful mix of pictures, diagrams and narrative on the spacecraft themselves, the instruments and problems that had to be overcome to make Voyagers 1 and 2 the success that they have been.

Boring
This book is not an insight into the technology. It's just a collection of commonly known facts and easily available pictures, not worth to buy it...

いい本だと思います
まだ全部をしっかり読んでいませんので星を4つにしました。が、和書に比べて専門的な情報がたくさん乗っており、貴重な知見が得られそうな印象です。買ってよかったと思っています。送られてくるのも速かったです。
