The Brewmaster's Bible: The Gold Standard for Home Brewers

The book is very good but I thing it is out of scope
This book is not really a Bible for me. it's more like a very good and useful book to have general knowledge of brewing but there are some things or some elements in the book that gets explained in a very outside like way that is just not very detailed for a book that is calling himself a Bible.Any way I think the book does the thing.

You need this book!
No matter how many times you brew, this is a great resource for novice to pro. Great info on just starting out brewing, malt/hop/yeast/water profiles, loads of recipes from very easy to more advanced techniques. I have been using this book for 6 years when I first started brewing.

Great recipie reference
The book is somewhat misleading - if you're a beginner homebrewer, I don't necessarily suggest this book. I would suggest something more along the lines of The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, as this book does not go into great detail of beginning steps. However, it is an excellent reference for recipies. Not only does it have hundreds (I'm not sure how many) of actual recipies, it also has great description of each type of beer and approximate starting and ending specific gravities.I am a beginner and use the recipies to decide what kind of beer to make next. So I do use this book before I go to the brewstore to pick up supplies everytime. All in all, it's a decent book.

so far so good
I got this as a gift to my bofriend for xmas. So far so good... hell be bottleing it in a day or so, so i cant really rate a five star intill finished. Seems like the right thing to get someone started out on brewing.. the dvd instructions are perfect... they tell you every step of the way and what to look for... so heres hoping its great all the way thru.

A great guideline
Making the switch to All grain, or just starting out? Need more indepth knowledge of beer profiles, malts, yeasts, hops, and adjuncts; then this is a great book. Wonderful reference book for just browsing and touching up some helpful hints or designing a few beers and then making your own profile.

Not a Bible per say, more like an Apocrypha
The Copyright is 1997, and home brewing has evolved a lot in a very short time. There is an enormous amount of repetition in this book, some errors in the recipes and feels like someone's random recipe collection. It doesn't even seem like the author actually ever could have made many of these, and the instructions aren't thorough or especially clear. In these current times, this book seems more apocryphal than gospel for brewers. If you can get it cheap, it has some interesting recipe ideas, but that's it.

Great...But
I agree with the reviewers who want an updated edition of this book. When it was published in 1997, it was the bible and gold standard for home brewers. It is a good reference book in this new age of home brewing.

A terrible book!
This book is really, really bad - do not buy it! It gives you only a very brief overview on all-grain brewing techniques but fatally lacks the in-depth information that you will need do be able to conduct (and understand) the process in the best possible way. If you are looking for a basic book on homebrewing buy John Palmer's "How to brew" instead or use the free online version. That's by far the best introduction to beginners and advanced homebrewing.

the information contained is good if slightly dated
Decent book, the information contained is good if slightly dated. Palmer's How to brew is a far superior read for a beginning home brewer.
