Solution to problems beyond mere darkness!
Most IP CCTV cameras these days come with integral infrared LEDs (there's a LOT of abbreviations in this sentence so far!), so why would you want a separate IR illuminator? And why choose this one? Let's have a look... The built-in IR LEDs in most cameras are perfectly adequate for typical applications, like using the camera to cover a doorway or alley. However, when it comes to larger spaces or greater distances between camera and subject, they can be a bit puny. The addition of a separate IR illuminator can greatly extend the camera's coverage. But that's not the only benefit I've found... If you've used CCTV at night, chances are you'll have encountered 2 related issues. Firstly, moths and other nocturnal insects seem drawn to the infrared light. That can play havoc if your camera has motion detection functionality, as the flying critters will trigger it on a very frequent basis (i.e. hundreds of times in a night). That renders the motion detection virtually useless. Secondly, because there's lots of insect activity, our little eight-legged friends just love building webs over the lights. They must think it's brilliant, having their dinner drawn irresistibly towards the light! There's the added bonus that it's nice and warm in front of the IR light, so you'll find spiders cannot keep away! The combination of insects and webs can ruin even the best CCTV coverage. Take a look at an example in the photos! When there's dew in the air, the webs are practically impossible to see through! Adding an external IR illuminator can help minimise these issues, provided you mount it a little way from the camera. The insects will be drawn away from the CCTV device (particularly if you can switch off its integral LEDs), therefore spiders will be less inclined to spin their evil traps right in front of the lens. Bonus!! So here's what I like about this IR floodlight: - Simple to install. - Good quality bracket. - Attractive design. - Comparatively small. - Great build quality. - Good IR light output. - Built-in lux sensor to activate at night. Things I wasn't so sure about: - You will need to source a compatible power supply, which will add a little to the total cost. Thing I definitely didn't like: - Nothing! It's very good! In summary, this is a great little lamp that looks good and works admirably. I'd definitely buy another! *** If you've found this review useful, please hit the "Helpful" button.
