Superbook
I have been a great admirer of Superman since the late 1940's, and it was a great pleasure to revive old memories with this book. It is interesting to see how much written text there is to read in each picture compared with today's comic books. You will gather from my enthusiasm that I am now over 80 but age has not diminished my enjoyment of this beautifully bound and presented book. Highly recommended for all Superman enthusiasts.

What can I say, Superman not getting into the Army, that was funny and I really liked the fact that his main foes were shady politicians, scientists, unscrupulous landlords and mobsters. It is easy to see the reason why he was such a revelation and in my opinion still is the greatest of all superhero'.

Interesting but...
Though this is a very interesting publication and it is nice to see the original Superman I feel it lacked something that may have moved it into a higher level. That something was the actual development of Superman by his author and illustrator. I found myself left wanting to know more when this could have been part of this book.

I loved this volume
I loved this volume. I'm annoyed when people try to pretend to be authorities on various subjects, and then down rate items, based on factors that have absolutely nothing to do with the item they're supposed to be rating. That's all too often the case with comics, video collections and other specialty media. This is a great book of Superman comics. If you are a fan of Superman, or are buying for a fan, you can't go wrong. Unless you are a hard corps nerd, and have been collecting since the 40's, you probably don't have all of these stories. Andd if you do, they're rarely as nice or accessible as this. Hardcover books (especially in the world of comics) are always welcome additions to someone's library and his edition is a heavy, well made, book will be no exception. The pages are thick, glossy and colorful. The printing is legible, but it still has that classic comic book look about it.Whether you are buying this as a gift, or for yourself, you won't regret this purchase. I bought it for a nephew who's just getting into classic comics. I read through it and almost decided to keep it myself. He was extremely grateful, both for the content and the quality of it. It's much better than I thought it would be, and I expected a very good book.

Superman fights the Axis during World War II
This incredible collection of early Superman stories was edited by the legendary Roy Thomas. In my opinion, this hardback edition is perfect in every way.It is a first class and beautifully presented effort from page one to the very end. I highly recommend this collection of Superman adventures that took place in real time during World War II.These stories were designed to keep morale high among our men and women who were serving in all branches of the military, and they were also designed to keep morale high on the Home Front. Furthermore, it worked! These action-filled Superman stories certainly achieved their goal as an important propaganda tool in the United States’ fight against the Axis powers around the globe. The artwork is superb along with the writing, and the full color reproductions in this hardback edition are, without a doubt, the best possible presentations of these rare comic book stories. So find an easy chair, settle back, and get ready to time travel back to “the war years” of 1938-1945 when Superman was fighting the Axis for “truth, justice, and the American way.”
