The blade is quite flexible but it seems accurate and is a decent size.

Using this for diy woodwork and its a good size. It’s not fully square though - about 0.75mm off over it’s 400mm length. It’s probably good enough for the price and what I need and I’ll probably keep it anyway.

I am usually a big fan of Starrett gear and I have a lot of it everything from multiple rulers right up to dial indicators for my CNC and mill work so when I saw this on Amazon and already having their 300mm version I thought I would treat myself ... you know hard to resist a new tool and all that.The square does look to be well made and is certinaly sturdy and not a flimsy and therefore inaccurate mess like many other squares from lesser brands and there is a good bit of weight to it.However on handling the square for a few seconds I found that most of the edges on the metal are razor sharp and very rough / ragity almost like someone has forgotten to break the edges / deburr during the manufacturing process... I hope that my actual square was just a one off mistake and not how all of this range are.The actual blade / ruler part is ok but the handle and inside parts of the handle would definately 100% cut you if you weren't careful and that's definately not what I would expect from a company such as Starrett... so pretty disapointed especially considering how much I like their stuff.I have since solved the problem by breaking the edges my self with a deburr tool and a small emery board borrowed from the wife's nail kit.

This square has to be the best value square on Amazon right now. I checked its square when it arrived and it is perfect. The rulers are properly calibrated off the respective inner and outer faces of the stock. The thin metal ruler arm of the square is straight not bent like many squares with long thin metal rulers. It feels very sturdy and I expect it to stay square for a long long time. It is made of good quality steel not aluminium so it will not get dented and bashed easily like the aluminium ones do. The length is very useful for general woodwork and also for checking/setting the squareness of flat pack furniture while assembling it. Highly recommended especially at this price!
