A thoughtful treatment of the subject matter. Worth reading.
I have to start out by saying that I absolutely hate exercise. Even so, I know it's good for me, so I've been doing it on and off (mostly on) for over 40 years. I'm in decent shape, and have read a lot of fitness books. Done a lot of different exercises, including weight lifting and various types of machines, as well as running, bicycling, etc. I thought I was pretty well informed. But, as the author of this book points out, when you start aging, things change. And most of the books out there don't address that. This one, however, is all about that! The most useful ideas I got out of the book were thinking about things like balance, and the decline in muscle mass. Natural results of aging, but to some degree, dependent on your exercise program. So ... the author educates you about the process of decline, and mixes in the ways you can act to deal with it. On top of that, the author also realizes the importance of motivation, and gently leads you into a program that will help you, no matter how little you do. Of course, the more you buy into the program, the better off you'll be. But it really doesn't matter where you are, or where you hope to end up - you can pretty much do it with this book. There is a little more emphasis on "trainers" in this book than I like, but if you can afford it, I certainly can't argue against the idea - a professional to stand by your side and motivate you is absolutely a great way to get your exercise. A buddy, partner, or pet is probably next best. You do what you can, and the author is there to help you think about that. I like it!

Just Move Will Change Your Life!
In 2005 just after my mother passed away, I found a book called Cowboy Ethics by Jim Owen. My Mom grew up on a ranch and we had often talked about her life there and the “cowboy way”.When I read the book it made me realize that what Jim was saying was the same things my mother told me living the “cowboy way” and it was the way she raised me and my brothers and sister.Cowboy Ethics was the book that changed my life mentally and spiritually setting me on my current path in life which has been both successful and rewarding. This last August I turned 65 and my doctor told me that my blood sugar had spiked putting me in a pre-diabetic condition. I was alarmed and didn’t want to go through the rest of my life taking insulin shots. And as the son of a doctor I knew that this would weaken my body and shorten my life.I decided right then and there that I would do something about it.I began by walking everyday just 20 minutes at first and now I do 45 minutes every day. I have lost weight and I feel better.I wanted to get even more fit as I am learning to rope from my horse and learning cutting and ranch sorting.Jim Owen came to my rescue once again.I found that he had written his new book Just Move! about fitness for people my age and I immediately ordered it.Just like Cowboy Ethics, Cowboy Values and The Try Jim’s other books, I couldn’t put it down and read it in one weekend.I have already begun to add the things in the book to my exercise program and am excited about adding more of the things he outlined and living a longer and healthier life.Cowboy Ethics changed my life from the neck up and focused my mind.I know Just Move! will change my life from the neck down.By putting the two together I get up every day excited about life’s possibilities.Message to all Baby Boomers: Buy this book, get fit and enjoy your golden years. You will be glad you did. There aren’t enough stars on Amazon to rate this book.

A Whole New Way to Look at Exercising - Functional Fitness vs. Gym Fitness
At age 63, I hike mountains and walk every day – I thought that was enough and that I was reasonably fit. But one day, something in me shifted. I couldn’t stand up straight or do some of the things I could do the month before. Getting up from a chair sometimes felt like I was fighting my way out of a tightly wound piece of Saran Wrap. Thanks to “Just Move”, I now know why and what to do about it. James Owen’s focus on functional fitness vs. gym fitness rang true and gave me a whole new perspective on exercising holistically. He points out that gym fitness “relies on machines and exercises that isolate muscles or muscle groups, aiming to strengthen them one at a time.” In contrast, functional fitness focuses on the movements needed in daily living, “range of motion, and support for vulnerable joints.”I know now that part of my physical issues stemmed from not exercising the multiple dimensions of fitness that James writes about, including strength, conditioning, flexibility, and balance. The book is very easy to read - laid out logically and beautifully. Lots of white space and illustrations, with easy to follow exercises. If you want to keep your health and mobility for as long as possible, you should read this book. For as Edward Stanley, a 19th-century British statesman rightly pointed out more than 140 years ago, “Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”It was heartbreaking to watch my elderly Mom’s deterioration, accelerated by lack of exercise. Not going to happen to me! I will be following James Owen’s advice and doing his exercises for decades to come.

Very easy to follow
I started reading this right after Christmas. Like everyone else I wanted to feel better, more flexible and get my balance better. I really enjoyed reading about how I can get up and move. I was sitting around to much so this book gave me the incentive to get out and walk.

Finally a common sense approach to fitness for the 50+ gang. No one I know want to run marathons, climb mountains or become a superstar athlete. We just want to feel good, have energy and enjoy the best years of our lives. This book is the answer.

Biggest waste of money ever
Biggest waste of money ever. This is just a rewrite of every exercise book out there, huge book, with so many picture of old people to convince you it is geared to older individuals. The author clams to have come from very unfit to fit but only shows pictures of himself as fit. Book is full of photos of basic exercises like squats, lunges etc, yoga positions etc. Nothing new here at all. Was hoping to have more of the author's personal story but it is very short and not very convincing. The book is titled JUST MOVE so it was shocking to find out that a walk or using a treadmill, won't make you fit. I was extremely disappointed in this book. The size of the book is 12 by 8 so I guess holding it to read, might improve your arm fitness but seriously if you have read any other fitness books just go back to those and don't bother wasting the money on this one. The only good advise the author gave was don't push through the pain, and to ignore the old saying no pain, no gain

A One and a Two and...
Good read with the pros and cons of doing the things to improve your life physically, thus mentally..Well written, with photos, and diagrams of various exercise positions and regimes.Very good without the likes of Fonda or the rest of 'em bending over for nothing... but money.Take it slow, and you'll see results.Boogie
