SalomonMen's X Ultra Pioneer Aero Hiking Shoe

I’ve purchased these 3x now, twice on Amazon. Not only are they the most comfortable shoes so far that I’ve owned made by Salomon, but the colors are awesome. These are suitable for everyday wear as well as in a trail/camping environment. High quality .

I used a pair of Ultra 4 for a year on hikes ranging from 3 to 8 miles. The Ultra Pioneers are as good in most ways and better in one key feature. They have equal levels for traction and stability. If you are scaling rocks these are very sturdy with exceptional grip on sandy, dusty rock. Time will tell if they are as durable but it’s all the same material so it should be fine. Where they’re superior is the lacing. The Ultra 4 has an auto lacing system that I did not like. It was impossible to tightening differently from bottom to top and it constantly loosened on hikes. The Ultra Pioneers has standard laces which I find to be much easier to get the right fit. YMMV. Overall, great hiking shoes.

Comfortable shoes. Easy to put on. I really like them. Also good for a mountain biking.

These are very high quality, but are lacking in a few areas. I'm about 700 miles in for 50 days working and 20 off days as a cart pusher and loader. They show a good amount of wear and I'm willing to bet I'll wear a hole in the toe box, the sockliner in the heel has multiple holes. All that wear may sound like a lot, but that's standard for me. My usual addidas hikers blow out fully in 5 months, but these are a notch above and I think I can push these longer by a few weeks. These could be improved a lot with a tounge gusset and thicker sole or insole for comfort. I like the outsole design as they still have sharp lugs even though they are worn flat. The fit is roomy enough compared to my last solomans which were alphacross peaks and they were way too narrow. Hope that helps I'd buy if you can find a deal, otherwise get cheap shoes if you have a similar purpose. I recommend walmart interceptor boot or xpeti here on amazon if those are your style.

This is the second pair of X Ultra's I've purchased and the fit is perfect! My other pair lasted 5 years and had lots of miles on them. I will be wearing these for light work in a desert environment.

Lighter than most of my sneakers but as rugged as my Timberlands. You love hiking? Then you'll love SOLOMONS.

I could not help but think "these are the ugliest shoes I've ever seen" when I opened the box (Quiet Shade / Mallard Blue). After a month of wearing them, I am in love. These are so comfortable, and seem far more durable than what Merrell has reduced themselves to. I had to switch away from Merrell Moab's after almost a decade because the quality has become so unpredictable.

I have had this pair of shoes just over 6 weeks and they have already failed. I pulled on the strings to tighten them and one of the loops failed. Don’t make the mistake that I made and think that others that have had the same issue pulled too tight. I pulled just slightly and the loop pulled out of the stitching. It is either a design flaw or poor quality control. I now have a nearly new $100 pair of shoes that is worthless. This was my first, and last, Salomon purchase.January 9, 2024, UPDATE: I really cannot change my rating to anything above my original 1 star; however, I need to update the review to commend Salomon for their warranty service. Since the shoes were outside the return date for Amazon, I contacted Salomon directly. I had to submit through their website several pictures to show the problem and demonstrate that the shoes had not been abused. Further, I had to provide proof of purchase and submit some of the manufacturing numbers from the shoes. I received an automated reply immediately and an agreement to replace the shoes under warranty within a couple of days. Instead of just sending me a replacement pair, I was given a credit to use to purchase another pair directly from Salomon. The credit was more than I originally paid for the shoes so I upgraded to another model; however, I had the option to use the credit to purchase the same model. While I still cannot recommend this model of Salomon shoe, I am impressed by the company's warranty.
