A valuable contribution to digestive health
These capsules aren't a panacea for IBS, but they certainly help me. They really cut down on both the volume and the noxiousness of wind. If that's your problem, I recommend them without reservation. But don't just pop one occasionally when you know you've eaten something naughty: take them regularly, twice a day, and expect to wait a week or so before the full effect kicks in.Everyone's digestion is different. If these capsules don't help you, don't give up on the idea of probiotics altogether. Try several brands until you find one that works well for you.If your problem is urgency (and you can't take, say, chocolate or caffeine), see your doctor, who will be able to prescribe something to increase gut transit time.If you can't take fat (in, say, fish and chips), a doctor can prescribe a medicine for that, too.If you find you can't take insoluble fibre (wholemeal bread, peas, sweetcorn, apples, etc.) without clearing the building, trying taking a good 500mg turmeric supplement once a day. But get a good brand, not a cheapo knock-off: if you don't get a distinct flavour of turmeric when you burp, you're not getting any turmeric. Some people also find that a daily dose of Vitamin D calms things down. But keep well below the safe limit; excessive amounts of D are toxic. Do your research first, and stay safe. Vitamin D levels rise and fall slowly over the course of days and weeks, so be patient. You can (and I do) take prescription medicines, Vitamin D and turmeric in combination with Lactobacillus Plantarum. Used intelligently, they all work together to permit an almost normal social life. I wouldn't be without any of them.

Used to create sour beer - seems like a good clean source of lacto p.
Firstly, I did not buy these as a gastrointestinal supplement so apologies if this review is somewhat leftfield.I purchased these as I was looking for a clean source of lacto planterum to create sour beer using the ‘kettle souring’ method. Sour beer is created by adding bacteria, such as lacto, to wort (liquid containing the sugars extracted from grains). As a homebrewer, it was important to me to get a clean source without any other yeast or bacteria that might start fermenting my beer. I had previously tried with some gastrointestinal supplements from the high street that contained several strains of lacto, but found that wild yeast started fermenting my beer and creating butylic acid (which is really not a good thing).I’m pleased to report that these pills have done an excellent job and after 48 hours my wort had reached the desired ph of 3.3. Please note that I did add lactic acid before pitching the lacto planterum. I used 10 pills for about 13 litres. I also pulled apart the pills, shook out the powder, and rehydrated in some wort before dumping into the kettle. I didn’t purge with CO2 as I don’t have the equipment to do so, but I did use clingfilm to make sure my kettle was well sealed. So, any other homebrewers that have read about lacto p. from all the yanks pitching goodbelly – this is a good source as far as I can tell, and ideal for creating clean sours in the berlinner weisse style.

DO NOT take if you suffer from migraines!
If you suffer or have suffered from migraines or anything similar such as getting headaches easily then DO NOT take this. I used to have migraines when I was a kid and I started taking this and they came back within 20 minutes. As soon as I stopped I was fine again. I’m not sure what ingredient inside it is exactly but just be cautious if you have suffered or currently suffer from migraines.

OK
I think 2 billion CFU is too little. Didn't notice any difference to my digestion. Used in conjuction with other probiotics/prebiotics is best

Use for brewing kettle sours
i find 90 tablets in 300L of wort at 35°C per-soured with lactic acid to 4.5pH achieves 3.5in 24hours and 3.2pH in 48hours.

Not as potent as advertised
4 star instead of 5, not so much because the product is a problem but more because the sales description here is incorrect and thus misleading. Amazon states: "3 billion probiotic bacteria" in the product description, so you think you're getting 3 billion CFU (colony forming units) the package itself actually says "2 billion probiotic bacteria" a mere 66% the strength of that advertised. Other than that, all else fine, received Dec 2015, expiry date is Feb 2017 so plenty of time to use them.I have "IBS," (a vague blanket gut disorder doctors know relatively little about) and ever since I was diagnosed with it I struggle to lose weight/fat despite exercising/lifting weights/not overeating on calories (in fact I seem to gain a bit of weight each year despite exercising more than ever) and am prone to skin problems: redness, dryness, dandruff and general dermatitis. This on top of the symptoms you would more commonly associate with IBS: bloating, constipation etc.I expect I have a gut imbalance resulting from growing up on a poverty diet and having been prescribed antibiotics a few times as a child/teenager. I got swine flu about 5 years ago and had to do antibiotics for 3 weeks, that's when my symptoms really kicked up a notch and I've never really gone back to my prior state of health since. I tried a general probiotic with 5 billion CFU and found although it eased some of the skin inflammation, bloating and the degree of constipation, the symptoms are still prominent enough to be annoying, so I've switched to trying this 2 billion dose of pure l.plantarum.I'll update this review once I've been taking these for awhile to see if they have any effect on mitigating my symptoms (particularly the non-bowel related ones.) I don't particularly enjoy talking about my health issues in a public forum, but I figured some of you may be looking at this product for the same reason I bought it, and hence may find this information useful. Got eczema/dermatitis, constipation, prone to fungal infections and all the rest of it? Your gut is probably imbalanced. Good luck. Am going to try some unpasteruised sauerkraut as well. Healing yourself isn't cheap, but nothing else is quite so important.
