Honey-Can-Do Retractable Clothesline Prop DRY-01413 Silver

Order was processed and shipped speedily. It was a surprise to me to find the hook and the adjusting nut and base were made of plastic. I "imagined" these were aluminum with a vinyl coating. The tube is indeed extruded aluminum.I don't know what kind of plastic it is, seems like polypropylene, which is fairly sturdy. The adjusting nut slips, it doesn't seem to have a locking position, which concerns me in the long run. This is why I put a 4 instead of 5. The base is tipped with plastic, and is rounded. I thought it would be flat for concrete or pointed for ground, so it sways in the direction of the breeze. The pole does hold the line up high enough for me. Since I just received it, I'll have to see how well it does with a mild load of light articles. It should do fine with a set of sheets or a long dress. It's one of those specialty tools you never think about until you need one. I needed this as my clothesline is beginning to stretch, and this will give it a quick lift. If this works, I'll get another, it really is nice, no edges to snag, and easy to position.Edited to add: I was able to hang 2 dresses, 4 tshirts, a pair of light trousers on either side of the pole and it held up nicely even in a breeze. I've just ordered 2 more as the price went down, too!Edited to add: Received the 2 additional poles as fast and as in good condition as first. I chose this model over some others because of the thicker bottom which will set on ground not concrete, and the option to use the wide portion of the hook. My line is cotton, doubled, so I wasnt sure if that would fit into the slots at top of hook--it does. We get some strong breezes, so have to use common sense hanging out clothes which can act like sails. If it's so breezy that sheets billow, I put a bottle of water in the fold. The bottle weighs about 2 lbs full, so sometimes I only fill it halfway, so figure that in with the weight of wet garments. I'd not put more than 10 lbs wet on each pole on either side. That's just my opinion. I shift clothes around on the line anyway as they dry to get all the damp parts to air. Dryer stuff by the pole prop, wetter stuff by the stronger laundry post.My mom used to jam a weeks worth of laundry for 7 people on her lines, all lumpy and wrinkly, folded over clothespin marks. That meant a lot of ironing, if you wanted to look decent. I love my dryer for that now, but somethings are just better when hung out in air, so I'd rather smooth them out by hand, and enjoy being outside than ironing.

Not really efficient. Kept sliding

Like others say, this pole isn’t very durable, strength wise. And I imagine it would be even weaker if it was extended all the way to its full length. I’d keep it on the shorter end if you’re using it for a clothesline.I bought it to spread out my hammock when nobody’s in it. It’s cotton and Mayan style and we leave it out in all types of weather. When it rains, it soaks up and holds water, so it can get pretty moldy. I use these poles to fan out the hammock, so it’ll dry faster.For that purpose, I think it’s good. But I definitely wouldn’t trust it to hold up a clothesline full of wet clothes. Unless your line is lower to the ground and you don’t have to extend the pole all the way out to support the weight.

I actually bought this product for installing curtains. My wife and I tried to lift up a long curtain rod with curtains close to the ceiling, but we only had one ladder in the house. I also didn't want my wife to stand on a ladder or chair holding one end of the curtain rod high while I was putting bolts into the mounting bracket on the other end. We came across this product and decided to give it a try. It worked perfectly for our purpose. My wife was able to use this product to lift up the curtain rod while standing on the floor. To increase friction between the metal curtain rod and this product, we simply put a thin layer of sticky rubber in between. We paid under $10 for a safer and easier solution.

I’m short and have tall ceilings. Getting up and down a step ladder was getting real old. I found this and now in the morning I don’t have to climb to get my clothes down. I wish I bought this years ago. It’s very lightweight but still feels study.

Decent price, but a little flimsy thus light weight. Would’ve been nice to be a little taller and maybe include an attachment to keep prop tethered to drying line/pole.

Damaged upon receipt of products

I liked the fact that it was light weight, but when I would extend the middle portion, it would keep sliding down. My clothes line would drop lower to the ground, so I don't use it at all now. Thank you.
