I appreciate Taschen offering these compact editions of their full size art books. You not only get to see a sample of the contents of the full size book, they are also very portable. For this book, I was impressed at the variety of content in the book. The art work covers about fifty years of art from pulp magazines to comics to book covers to movie posters. Also interesting is the overlap at times of fantasy imagery and scifi imagery in some works that is wonderful to look at. The book is predominantly fantasy, but the dash of 50s 60s and 70s sci fi fantasy that is included (the cover an example) is the perfect compliment to the fantasy art. I have the Taschen xl copy of the Frazetta book, I'll probably look to get an xl copy of this one as well, to see some of the pieces in this book at a larger scale. If you're a fan of these genres in fiction, I recommend getting a copy of this compact edition. It's a great addition to my art book collection.

Extremely well made book. Thick pages, great graphics. There is a lot of commentary by the artist of the works. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the book. Side note: it’s not as big as I thought it would be, which is fine because it fits in my book bag.

Taschen is quality. I have the oversized Frazetta book, and when I decided to buy this I was curious how the size would work for me. The answer is: they are two completely different kinds of books. This is a reference book and while small, it is a reference book. And the quality is Taschen. Try to wear it out. Good luck!

My dad had a similar book to this and I gobbled it up as a kid. The images took my mind on a fantastic journey each time I turned the page. These are spectacular works of art, each one frame worthy. My only gripe about this perfect book is the size. I wish it were double the size, but I will cherish it nonetheless!! Thank you!!

It's a little on the small side, but there are so many breathtaking images here and seeing some of these artists side by side really brings out the contrast between them. I dislike how some images are spread across pages I'd just rather have a larger book or foldouts. It does feel great in the hand and I gleefully go through it at times.
