Production of the Sd Kfz 11 began in 1939. The basic version served as an artillery tractor, usually for the 10.5cm leFH 18/36, However other variants were used such as this Sd Kfz 11/2 Entgiftungskraftwagen (or Decontamination Vehicle). The Sd Kfz 11/2 Entgiftungskraftwagen had a flatbed rear body to accomodate cargo loads such as the oil drums depicted in this model kit. Sd Kfz 11s served on all fronts from Poland in 1939 right through to the end of WWII. They were as well suited to the deserts of Africa and the harsh muddy winters of the Eastern Front with over 25,000 being produced.
