Nice set of herbal infusions
...although I have to admit, when I first saw the outer box, with its cursive 'For Balance, Beauty, Love and Youth' slogan, I couldn't help but be reminded of the old Victorian era adverts: 'Bovril: For Health, Strength and Beauty' (other meat extract pastes available). Clearly, what once was old, is again new.Good-natured amusement aside at the slogan, the outer packing, with its purple-people-eating finish is actually quite attractive, and does the job required in holding the four tins of herbal teas / infusions securely in place. Being plasticised it does offer some water resistance, albeit probably not ideal from a recycling perspective (area policy depending). Opening and extracting the four tins, the packaging actually takes a step forward: the tins themselves (cardboard / metal hybrid) are neat, easy to open, and attractively presented in different colours conforming to the contents. I'm not so sure about the slogans on each ('Soothing Love', 'The Secret Dance of Beauty', 'Drops of Sweet Youth' [no less] and 'The Song of Inner Balance'). It's harmless though, and frankly rather 'nice' -which is good, since we could do with a bit more of that in this world, so if you like that sort of thing, you'll like these. If you like a quality herbal infusion you'll probably like them too, because they're very good examples. You'll need a strainer / infuser, which is no great hardship, and with the water of recommended temperature and infusion time, we have here a nice, diverse range of different offerings: distinctive in both aroma and flavour. The chamomile and lavender are probably the most familiar; gently floral in the first case with some sparkle from the orange in the mix. The lavender is a deeper offering, though still with delicate flavour and scent, helped by the mint that is in the herb mix. The cardamon is a real contrast: as an earthy spice it's quite strong on nose and palate as you'd expect, though there are some delicate floral peppery notes that come through. Interesting. The hawthorne was unusual for me, as it's not something I've tried before: sweet floral from the Hawthorne, with an interesting combination of citrus topnotes from the rosehip, and green notes from the thyme. Very pleasant. Although not cheap, it's a good quality set, with some unusual combinations, so it is definitely worth trying.

Overpriced but an interesting gift for the right person
This is for people who definitely like their tea in a pot and like herbal teas. Pukka teabags may be more practical for most people and for guests with different requests. There is no black or green tea in these mixes - they are entirely based around flowers, leaves, fruits and spices. These are much less strongly flavoured than Indian chai - despite ingredients like cardamom and chilli in the cardamom tea.I brewed a pot of tea last night with one heaped teaspoon of the cardamom tea plus two teaspoons of ordinary loose black tea. The effect was a mild pep up in the pot from black tea on its own. I like sage for its qualities in improving clear-headedness and I like the flavour of cardamom. But these did not come across very strongly, even after an hour in the pot with a tea cosy. The tightly fitting cartons they come in are decorative and should retain freshness. Take care not to tear the paper with the seal on first opening. But they are mainly made of paperboard (PAP recycling label 21) with aluminium at each end. They are therefore not as durable as a tin and more vulnerable to water damage in a busy kitchen.

Good for gifting, brew suggestion isn't the best, Pricey for 285 grams of herbal ‘tea’ infusions.
As someone who can appreciate a good quality tea, this feels prohibitively expensive in my opinion. It's catered specifically toward gifting and the packaging is good and would be very appreciated by anyone who likes to try different types of herbal infusions and tea blends. One thing to note though, if you happen to absolutely love one of these and want to get more, there doesn’t appear to be any way to buy a larger quantity or even single versions of these which seems like a bit of an oversight. You also get varying quantities of each mix. I would've preferred to get an equal amount of each rather than a mishmash of four different amounts. They aren’t doing themselves or us any favours with the generic recommendations on each can for brew times and amounts. All four mention 1 ‘spoon’(says teaspoon in the product description) 90-95c water and a 5 minute steep with no mention of the quantity of water. For such an expensive product aimed at being premium it baffles me that they didn’t even take the time to recommend suitable brewing recipes for each type of tea.I brewed them all as ‘recommended’ and honestly they’re very very mild with barely any character. If you give this to someone who is used to just chucking a teabag in a cup and adding water they’re going to be out of their element and the product makes no real effort to help them in my opinion. My recommendation for each of these is just to ignore the writing on the can and start with 1 heaped tablespoon per cup(236ml) of 95c water with a 7 minute steep and adjust the steep time to taste. At the end of the day all of this is subjective but I can say without a doubt that the recommended 1 teaspoon will just leave people disappointed in the flavours or the lack thereof.Strictly speaking these are all herbal infusions and no tea leaf plant elements are present, so it's being slightly misrepresented but many would disagree about that with me. I'm a bit of a bore and like to stick to black tea and green tea as my main types but these were an interesting dabble into herbal infusions once I experimented a lot. I do think they should spend less money and effort on superficial marketing, reduce the price and add some legitimate brew instructions tailored to each of the blends.
