Mr Gum and the Secret Hideout: 8 Paperback – 3 July 2014

I have read all the Mr Gum books to both of my kids over the last few years. They are hilarious. I am probably more excited about bedtime stories than the kids when we are on a Mr Gum book. They are so refreshing and just completely whacky. There are times when I have to stop reading as we are in such fits of laughter. We will certainly mourn the day when there will be no more books. It sounds a little premature but I am now looking forward to day I can read these to the grandkids. Shabbame whiskers!

I like the book because it made me laugh out loud and my favourite character is Frides and Mr Polly. My dad’s Favourite character is granny. From Me aged six.

We love these Mr Gum books and the only sad thing to mention is that we have now read the whole series and are starting back at the beginning at the moment while we wait for Andy Stanton to write another one! The characters and the way they recur again in each episode with their weird catchphrases and characteristics, all tied together with a very strong goodies vs baddies theme is addictive to both my kids (6 and 8, although I think the 8 yr olds gets the most out of it) and I love reading the stories with them as they are witty at many levels, in fact I sometimes read them before I go to bed because I can't wait to find out what happens next!Mr Gum is truly evil, as is his sidekick Billy William the Third, whereas lovely Polly and Friday O'Leary are the main good guys who gain support from a wide variety of the weirdest characters imaginable, our favourite being Alan Taylor the gingerbread headmaster with electric muscles! If you like your kids fiction weird, funny and unpredictable, it doesn't come better than this. We have tried many similar series, but none live up to this one. Nice to read them in order (i.e. Youre a Bad Man Mr Gum, first) if you can, to really get the sense of development from one book to the next.Enjoy!

My 9 year old daughter is a massive fan of the Mr Gum books, she used to read them to herself and read bits out of them when I asked her what she was laughing at - and now I'm a fan too ! I read them to her at bedtime, and frequently have to stop as I am laughing too much. If you and/or your child has an offbeat sense of humour then these are the books for you. The characters are great, especially if like me you enjoy putting on voices for each one, and the books are filled with many laugh out loud moments. This latest book continues the high standard and is an essential purchase for Mr Gum fans of all ages.

I love all the mr gum books and one of my favourite part in this book was the whole thing because it's amazing and I thought it was funny when Friday on Leary sharpened his tie with an electric pencil sharpened . I have also read mr gum and the cherry tree, your a bad man mr gum and mr gum and the biscuit billionaire I thoroughly enjoyed all of the and they all made me laugh out loud !!!!I would recommend this book to everybody as it is fantastic and highly funny a huge pat on the back to Andy Stanton !!!!!

I love these books, I have read most of them now and they never get boring. ( I'm 41 btw. )

Taught a class that loved comedy but I was getting slightly bored of Walliams and Dahl. Bought this and tried it and the children loved it. Within a few week all the desks were peppered with books from the series. Easy to read, full of randomness and silly! I would recommend for 6-12 year olds but immature adults will enjoy it too!

If you read the blurb of this book it well, for me it doesn't sound that good. But I gave it ago, and I am so happy that I read it! Because it is really funny, it has interesting characters, and I bet your friends will like it! I am already on chapter 8 and I have had this book only three days now. There are 12 amazing chapters in this book, and I have to rate my favourite. 'Chapter 3-page 25!' So don't just sit down being lazy on your sofa watching TV, at-least read a 'Mr Gum' book instead!!!
