No, that won't happen, this is a nylon braided guitar strap with cowhide ends that will protect your guitar very well.

Q: Is short enough for a 9 year-old girl?

No. I originally ordered this for my 11 year old son who is on the smaller side. Even sized all the way down, it was FAR too big. I ended up using it on my own guitar. The houndstooth is beautiful and the quality is top line, but not child sized.
