There are heatproof mats for soldering of non-electronics (many of which aren't silicone, but some refractory material).And then there are those specifically for soldering electronics.I found this one when searching for an antistatic one, for electronics, and ordered it due to the many positive reviews.Having had it on the desk today and handled it, I can say that a tremendous amount of static electricity builds up on it, almost as if it had been specifically designed to do this, and not the opposite.I could hardly believe it, and rechecking the description, I now saw that the word 'antistatic' isn't mentioned.However, the design of the mat with the small compartments clearly suggests that it should be used for electronics. Beware! I'm sure this will fry your components!

I bought this to take apart projects involving small screws, the little sections help with keeping things in place aiding the projects going back together again.I'd highly recommend this to anyone wanting to do similar as it's very useful indeed.

Adverised as being anti-static, but it's extremely good at collecting static and giving shocks. The static also allows it to gather dust and hair very well. Not suitable for anyone working on static sensitive electronics!
