Worth the read for anyone in schools
Informative and effective. It was recommended by a colleague and I’m grateful because it challenges me to be a better educator.

especially our school systems have TAUGHT us to hate Black people in America by dehumanizing them
Finally!!!!!! Thank you for finally explaining and de-coding how white women's fear of Black men keeps playing out in our Young Black Boys and GIRLS lives! The QR Codes imbedded with videos tracking with every chapter are a MUST!I wish every teacher were required to read and learn HOW they are unconsciously "throwing away" our Students of Color, which effects our society. Our society, especially our school systems have TAUGHT us to hate Black people in America by dehumanizing them. They have even taught us how to hate ourselves and to participate in our own abuse!! White supremacy plays out everyday in the classroom, at recess, in Drama, Music, Libraries and Athletics. Please keep writing, sharing the Truth so we all can learn how to stop perpetuating a culture of racism (point sheet/tracking kids to death, zero tolerance and more SRO's on campus) and begin anti-racism work. Learn, teach and talk about culture and race, build authentic RELATIONSHIP's while practicing inclusion, equity and Social Justice, which just happen to be best practices and healthy for ALL students, not just the Black students.White Women Wake UP! When you get uncomfortable, Black and Brown kids should not have to pay with their emotional, intellectual and physical LIVES! When you're frustrated, misunderstood or just don't know what to do or how to reach Black kids, REACH for this book instead . . and then pass it to the teacher next door, your principal and superintendent so they join in and change their classrooms, theaters, fields, libraries schools and school districts!! -Hint - Think about this; We, Black teachers, do not take out our "frustrations" of being raped and held like animals by White men, (who were never held accountable let alone imprisoned!) on little White boys sitting in our classes. Seeing their face reminds us of history just the same, we just aren't afforded to keep playing it out like you are allowed to. We keep teaching and loving them to do better and be better - you can do that too - we ALL need to!! Again, Thank you !!!

I'm halfway through this book and have been recommending it ...
I'm halfway through this book and have been recommending it left and right. It is packed with enlightening information, actionable classroom tips, and moving vignettes. There are short videos to accompany most sections, so I can picture teachers reading and discussing in groups, using some of the videos to spark conversation. From the latest research on subconscious bias to tips on understanding and leveraging students' VERVE, every chapter has brought new insights. While geared toward teachers, I'm encouraging parents, restorative justice practitioners and school administrators to take a look.
