Defenders Water Butt Treatment – 500 ml, Safe & Natural Concentrated Formula, Treats Rainwater and Household Grey Water

Lack of rain during recent set spell has meant our harvested water is being used quickly. Product seems to work well, but the 6400 litre claim is a joke. 2000 tired maximum. Which makes it an expensive item for treatment.

This arrived quickly and is very easy to use. To be honest the scent of the product is only obvious when dispensing it, but the smell of the water in the water butt is noticeably less.Main tip - thoroughly clean out the water butt before using this product.Also regularly check the connector for leaves, moss, etc. which may slow the flow and increase the poor smell.

I bought this after reading the product info. We have a hosepipe ban I have several 100 ltr water butts which I have been topping up with grey water. Must have got food or something in cos the butts smell like rotten eggs. Don' know if this product works yet because I only received it today. Read the blurb. Put 3 caps full (according to the label this is 25ml) into watering can and added to the 1st 100ltr butt. Instructions on the can say to empty out the water and clean the butt first but on-line it says you only need do this is there is a lot of sludge. Then saw how much liquid was left in the bottle. Measured it and it was 370ml! Measured 3 caps full and that was 50 ml, so there was only 420ml in the bottle to start with! Label also says there is a content indicator on the side of the bottle. Not on mine! label says treats up to 6500 litres but at 25ml per 100ltr (recommended dose on the bottle) even if the bottle had 500ml in it this would only treat 2000 litres (20 x 100 litre butts). So if you use 3 caps full per butt you can only treat 1000 litres, or ten 100 litre butts, or one butt for 10 weeks. Wish I had measured the contents and cap size before I opened it. As for the maths - can't see where the figures 6500 comes from. I reckon you would need 1.625 litres of product to treat this amount at 25ml per 100 litre butt. Phoned customer services but could not make the agent understand. put me on hold. After 10 mins I hung up.

I was very sceptical about this product BUT it works I had a very green slimy water butt but after a few days it is all gone so please will keep using thanks selller.

My 100l water butt suddenly wend rancid, with dirty, cloudy, stinky water. I had one of the silver plate things in it, which seemed to work initially but obviously gave up.I have only used a couple of doses of this treatment, but already the water is less cloudy and brown. Still stinky, but I am not sure that will go away until I can empty the thing out and get it scrubbed. Not looking forward to that one. We haven't had any rain for ages so that might have something to do with the problems.So the four stars is only because I haven't been using this for long. Hopefully the full effects will be wonderful and I can update this review.

Used on 2 water butts of smelly water, now no longer smelly
