Single Interface.Introducing the True Hybrid CloudWith the LaCie 5big NAS running NAS OS 3, you get a true hybrid cloud: integrated network-attached and secure cloud storage. LaCie is alone in the market having its own cloud storage product, Wuala. As a result, LaCie is uniquely positioned to deliver a seamless hybrid cloud solution.Easy Setup, Seamless IntegrationSimply connect the product and install the Wuala client, and instantly you have 100GB of free trial online storage**. Wuala file system integration means both network and cloud storage mounts on your computer just like an external hard drive. So you can easily drag and drop files onto the LaCie 5big or the cloud. It also lets you access and work on files wherever you go – and even edit files with productivity software – without needing to download them. Complete CompatibilityNot only does Wuala work on Windows, Mac, and Linux, but also on mobile devices (iOS and Android). Just install the Wuala app on your smart phone or tablet to gain access to any file stored on your LaCie 5big. Make your data as mobile as your employees are (but constantly available)Fast Professional CollaborationFaster Internal File SharingBoost your business productivity with up to 200MB/s*** transfer speeds. The LaCie 5big is powered by a dual-core 2.13GHz Intel 64-bit Atom processor and 4GB RAM. It also features dual LAN and link aggregation for optimized network speeds. This combination optimizes file transfers between employees, and ensures full performance even with simultaneous transfers.Work Smarter, Work TogetherIt also lets you automatically sync files between the cloud and one or many of your company's computers, ensuring everyone's looking at the most current versions. Sync makes sure that an employee in sales, for example, won't use an outdated price list, or be unable to pull up marketing collateral during a sales pitch. Since your Wuala Business users have access to a shared pool of storage, it's easy to keep everyone on the same page.Better External File SharingWhat's more, instead of using FTP or email to share files with external clients, simply give them the folder's secret link on Wuala. They can download files directly through any browser without needing to install the Wuala client or be granted access to your company's network. No file size restrictions means you can share large files easier than ever. Formidable Data Security. Simplified. View larger.Professional Security, Suitable for NovicesThe LaCie 5big goes the extra mile to protect your data. In addition to industry-standard RAID modes, the 5big is the first LaCie product to ship with SimplyRAID, which makes RAID management easy enough for any novice. Either manually select a RAID mode such as 5, 1, or 0, or activate SimplyRAID. It ensures that even if you're not an expert, you still benefit from the best data security. Sophisticated protection. Simple usage. Industry-Best Cloud SecurityFiles stored on the cloud are encrypted even before they leave your computer. So no one, not even a LaCie employee, could ever access them. While competing cloud storage services could read your files due to employee wrongdoing or court order, files stored on Wuala are solely accessible by your Wuala administrator. Wuala also employs bank-level security to protect files stored on its servers. Minimal Investment, Maximum ScalabilityOpt for the diskless model and simply add more storage as your business grows. Automatic RAID expansion means that it's easy to add additional or higher capacity disks without losing your data. Using SimplyRAID, you also get improved available storage compared to traditional RAID solutions when using disks of different sizes. These features let you reduce your initial investment while ensuring a long-term solution.RAID for Bulletproof Hardware SecurityWith SimplyRAID, you also get the perfect compromise between speed and disk-failure proof, hardware-level data protection. If a disk fails, you can replace it without turning off your appliance. Just swap in a new one without losing a single byte of data. Whatever the challenge, zero data loss, zero work interruption. It includes three client licenses for Genie Backup Manager Pro for Windows and three licenses for Intego Backup Manager Pro for Mac (additional licenses can be purchased online). Install the included software on computers to be backed up, or simply use Time Machine or Windows Backup. Offsite Backup for Ultra SecurityYou can even add offsite backup to your data protection strategy. Wuala lets you create backup jobs that back up a computer's folder onto the cloud. An employee accidentally deletes an important file or his hard drive fails? Regardless of your backup method – 3rd party software or Wuala – restore lost files in seconds and get employees back on track. Automated NAS BackupThe LaCie 5big also takes the hassle and potential for human error out of backing itself up. You can replicate your LaCie 5big's storage onto an attached USB 3.0/2.0 hard drive, or vice-versa. Create automatic backup jobs tailored to each of your attached devices. You can also use your NAS to back up another NAS, whether it's on the local network or remote. Even configure a nightly backup of your NAS onto a backup server in a completely different building. Advanced Features for Small Business View larger. Rescue UtilityThe 5big is the first product to feature LaCie's Rescue utility. This browser-based tool gives administrators a DVD-free way to reinstall or repair the NAS OS, and to recover from system failure. Using the included USB key, the browser-based LaCie Rescue allows you to install the OS on a diskless chassis. As a result, it's easy to replace all your NAS' disks at the same time, or set up a LaCie 5big that shipped without disks. In case of system failure, LaCie Rescue launches automatically to help you recover files from a damaged system via FTP, repair the OS, or completely restore the NAS to factory settings. Enhanced Network ManagementThe LaCie 5big offers advanced network management. iSCSI lets you create a share on your LaCie 5big to mount on a computer in the same way that external hard drives are mounted when connecting to your PC/Mac. The LaCie 5big even lets you specify which services are active on which of the Ethernet interfaces. For example, use one LAN for iSCSI and the other for AFP/SMB sharing. Dual Cooling for Long-Term ReliabilityThe cooling system can have a dramatic impact on the long-term reliability of your server. The LaCie 5big's dual cooling is the best protection against overheating throughout its lifespan. First, its solid aluminum casing diverts and dissipates heat effectively. Second, its whisper-quiet, thermo-regulated Noctua fan automatically adapts its spinning speed to the internal temperature. As a result, the fan cools the components, which is vital for a better long-term investment. LaCie 5big NAS Pro 20TB (9000365U)
It takes a little to get use to. But now it can keep all my records together in one place and be able to move files around, from computer to computer.

Awesome, plus aesthetically pleasing. Very very very impressed
OMG... This thing is awesome! I have, over the years, amassed a rather large collection of digitized movies (my own, of course... >.> <.<), music, documents, and pictures and was running out of space or having to switch between different hard drives to access what I needed. This item solved all those issues. It comes already configured in RAID 5 format, to support hot-swapping any failed drives. It did seem to be finicky about booting initially though... I had to power it off and on a couple of times to get the front button/light to turn blue and await my commands. The LaCie Network Assistant (available download from their website) makes things a lot easier as well, and gives a very nice user interface that one can customize to their heart's content. Users, permissions, partitions, creation, password protection, etc is all available within, or you can simply mount the drive from the network to your displayed drives and treat it just like an external. User preference, of course. Comes with right at 17TB of usable space, right out of the box, but this can be tweaked slightly. Write times lag a little, but wow... the read times. It's definitely as advertized, and not having to deal with those pesky wires trailing from one's laptop = euphoria.

Worst product from Lacie ever
I have one of these, and about 15 of the 5Big NAS Network 2 (not Pro). This one has been down more than up. They blame it on the power supply. I have no idea why. Maybe they should make a better power supply if that's the case. They refuse to take it back and refund my money. They have sent me a refurb'd one and it's as bad if not worse than the original one I bought. I have 20TB of storage that is sitting in my studio of no use to me at all. Prior to this purchase, I would have recommended Lacie products to anyone. But not this one. Never!

Stores data. Doesn't protect it. That seems like a problem.
I'm disappointed. I purchased this NAS because I wanted to protect my data. I wanted to make sure that a random event wouldn't destroy a disk and hence cause me to lose everything. For years that worked just fine. Then, one day, I walked in and the pretty blue light was an angry red. Tech support was super helpful & responsive, but we were not able to put humpty dumpty back together again despite trying recovery steps, swapping the power supply, or trying a new chassis. I will now spend thousands trying to get my data back from Seagate recovery services as advised by tech support.I had vainly hoped that I was working with a company whose business it was to help protect my data. Turns out they're just in the business of disk storage products. And unfortunately, the product doesn't work. I could have had this same experience had I avoided redundancy.

Super Easy to Install and Use, Needs Network Connection
So far so good, everyone in the office likes the new cloud. Easy to install and manage. It does need a cable to your repeater/router/etc

Insanely Fast
This NAS is insanely fast, I get read/write speeds around 200MB/s using the Simple RAID mode (RAID 5), so if a hard drive fails my data is safe. The new software update on the NAS (OS 4) has a bunch of new features and I am happy with LaCie's support as well. This NAS is also a great value compared to the others on the market. It is easy to use and setup and most importantly reliable.

Best Value & Performance
This is still one of the top performing NAS on the market, super fast data transfer and more features with the NAS OS4 and comparing it has the best price compared to other drives.
