Worth having to hand as you progress through the PPL(H)
I'm in the process of taking my PPL(H) and find this book really helpful after each lesson. Or for that matter before. It really compliments the course itself and is written in very simple and non technical language. Often when I'm looking for an answer or reflecting on lack of progress this book helps keep things in context. It's well written and almost conversational in style. Obviously your instructor has all the answers but sometimes it's just nice to get a view that's independent from your flying school. I've just about got the 'hovering' in hand but have had some real struggles....oh and so does everyone, this book helped me understand that patience is a virtue and that we all go through the pain. It's clearly not for helping you through ground school or exams, it's more angled at the flying aspects of the PPL (H) course and for me that's just been great.

Good book to prepare
I'm thinking of going for the PPL(H), and this is just the read I need to prepare. OK, it's maybe a bit to "conversational" at times, but I guess that's all I need to know for now. I recommend this book for everyone who thinks about flying a helicopter.

Handy for a potential helicopter pilot
A very good and interesting book despite the fact that the diagram on page 26 is totally wrong!

This book actually helps focus the possibility of learning to fly a helicopter closer to reality
I have just finished reading this book and found it to have been the most enlightening of books about helicopters, I have ever read. I have been fascinated by them for many years, just the sound makes me stop what I am doing and look. Even our choccy lab gets excited at the sound of 'helicopter' being spoken or even when she hears one! It has always been a dream to learn to fly them. My wife bought me a trial helicopter flight experience which I did at Swansea Airport, in a Robinson R22, which was wonderful, possibly the best birthday present ever, so since then I have been reading up on them.Naturally, money is the major factor that has prevented me from achieving the dream of learning to fly them, but its a pleasant dream, nonetheless. I am 66 years young now, but if the chance visited me, and the regulations allowed it, I would not hesitate. This book is a most informative, inspiring, encouraging, honest and humanly written book about my principal interest in life which still occupies the top spot in my interests section. I have a few books on helicopters, but this one is my favourite, to date, and it helps to bridge, to me, the tremendous gap between loving something so much, and the possibility, even now, of achieving that dream. Thank you, Helen.
