I used it immediately after reading the instructions. Yes it heats up but was only warm and lasted about an hours omit you expect it to keep wRm while shopping then go for a rechargeable Cooble hand warmer. It lasts hours. Useful if you can reheat it regularly.. Can't see it getting too hot either.

It's a bit fiddly having to put the water in the microwave when you warm it up, but well worth the effort when you sink your hands into the warm muffler. I have even used it on my back when working on the computer...lovely.

Was bought for my 85 year old mother, she said they are hard to get used to but likes them.

Good points, it heats very well in the microwave, the inner gets very hot - heed the warning to put the whole thing in the microwave.The heat it gives off is good. The strap that it comes with is sturdy.The cover is very nice plush feel with generous space inside.This was a gift, the recipient loves it, and actually remembers to use it!Downsides? somewhat smaller than I expected somehow - casing was quite roomy, but hot square only about the size of my small hands.Had to reheat quite often to keep elderly lady warm (under her feet it was Very effective for warming whole person)The strap isn't long enough for a dumpy person to use in most of the areas one might want the heat, so seated with the unit wedged in place is the main option - do that and it's very effective , but didnt last long enough, for my expectations, between reheating moments
