A lovely read and a great story.
4 1/2 stars. It's been a while since we've had a Kate Morton book to enjoy and this book is worth the wait. In the Adelaide Hills of Australia on Christmas Eve in 1959, a tragedy happened to a family. The man who found them was traumatized for life. The tragedy affected the survivors for several generations. Jess is living in London after the breakup of her marriage and she gets a call that her beloved Grandmother Nora is in hospital. She flies back to Australia to be with her. Nora is not doing well and seems to be trying to tell Jess something important. Jess stays at Nora's housewhile Nora is in hospital and tries to learn what upset Nora so much and what she was trying to tell her. She discovers a book about the tragedies that happened long ago and is astounded that it had been kept secret from her. She is determined to try to find out more about it and why it is upsetting Nora so many years later. There are some wonderful stories about people connected to the tragedy that Jess discovers as she works to unearth the truth about that time so long ago. A lovely read and a great story. I really enjoyed this book.

Great read
Just finished this book. Great story with lots of ups and downs, twists and turns. The first chapter is a stunner. The book is long and could have been shortened if a lot of background on peripheral characters had been left out. I learned a lot about the Adelaide Hills area. That was a plus as I have never been there. The characters were well developed. The ending was convoluted and a stretch at reality. Although there were surprises right to nearly the last page. Read it as it is a super story.
