These candles have two layers of what appear to be different kinds of wax. As you can see in my photo, there's an outer layer and inner layer. The outer layer is harder wax and even when I tried a candle topper, is not melting with the same consistency as the inner layer. Unfortunately, this has led to tunneling. And yes, I started the candle with a very long initial burn. I light a candle when I start my workday so these burn for 6+ hours in one stretch. Accordingly, I've had to keep cutting the candle down as the flame isn't getting enough oxygen, being so far down inside the tunnel. This means a lot of wax is not being burned and is wasted.

I know the description says these are "mottled" but that is not why these are discolored. The center and sides of the candles are as described - a mottled burgundy - but these came in one box with the shipping label on it and no packaging of any kind. The top edges are beat up and discolored. If the discoloration were in the center of the candle it would be useable because it would burn away. But even if you light these they will burn down the middle and the beat up edges will always show. It is too much trouble to send back - these are going in the trash.
