The sand grains are medium size and soft, not too big but not small enough to be powdery. Would probably be good for a sand litter box. My gerbils love it. There really is NO DUST. No dust cloud when pouring and no dust on my hands. It is tan/orange and does not make my white gerbils look like they have a bad spray tan. It arrived double bagged in two thick ziplock bags and the inner bag did not leak. Easy to pour out. 2.5 lbs of sand sounds like a lot more sand than it actually is. I think the price is worth the quantity & quality, but make sure you purchase enough.

Good sand, hard to tell how much is enough for a container but realistically you should choose a smaller container for your hamster otherwise you will need a lot of sand.

The sand works great and my hamster loves it! However, it does run out quickly and only lasted about two months for me with weekly or bi-monthly replenishment.

I repurchased this item 5 times. It is dust free, clumps up when my hamster pees on it, odor free, and not messy at all. Only one time out of the five times that the bag was broken, but otherwise I have no complaints about this product.

Can't go wrong. Fine but not dusty. A necessary addition to the enclosure of any hamster or gerbil. Reptisand is a good alternative but I prefer this one. It takes slightly less than two bags to fill the large niteangel sand bath.

We have been buying the 2lb sand for our two gerbils monthly for about 5 months now and it has been fantastic. The gerbils adore using it regularly to bathe as well as use it as a bathroom. Strongly recommend getting a small scooper (theres both rodent and reptile ones) to make the sand last longer. Scooping and cleaning in general is easy to do with this sand. And since the sand is such a nice quality, I have no fear of any dust flying into their noses as they roll around in it for bath time.
