To LOCK THE LEGS, turn the RED COLLAR.
To lock the legs at 45 degree position, you must gather the legs together and then ROTATE THE RED COLLAR AT THE TOP OF THE LEGS.Rotate counter-clockwise for legs to be flat on the tabletop, rotate clockwise for legs to be 45-degrees upwards from the tabletop. It takes a firm touch to rotate it only about 30 degrees either direction. Really solid construction! In the FLAT POSITION, the central base is 1/8" above the table and the Arca-Swiss plate top is 5-1/8" above the table. In the 45-degree RAISED POSITION, the central base is 3.0" above the table and the Arca-Swiss plate top is 8.0" above the table.Only the rubber footpads touch the tabletop. It only holds those two heights, and wow it sure holds firmly, smooth, and strong.BONUS: No, you don't need a hex key to adjust the legs. They hold 2 positions just as is.BONUS: No, you don't need a 3/8" adapter for the 1/4" mount on the tripod, because it already has a spring-loaded 3/8" adapter embedded right on the 1/4" mount. The tripod by itself can hold either 1/4" or 3/8" gadgets automatically, just as is.BONUS: The carrying case has 1/8" foam padding all around, very sturdy quality, with red piping and a sturdy plastic little swivel carabiner to hang the case on any rods/ropes/hooks up to 1/4" thick.BONUS: It includes three 17"-long 1"-wide straps with snap-lock buckles so you can tie the tripod to any railings or branches. The straps fit right through those two slots on each leg.Brilliant design, very high quality materials, and damn sturdy.

Every photography should buy one... Greatest $30 purchase ever
Solid little tripod...I love how simple the design is. The legs have one locked position so they can either go flat, extend into the tripod or fold up completely. The mechanism to adjust the legs is genius. It's just three slotted groves in the red metal wheel. The legs stop at their height by hitting the red metal wheel, and turning the wheel allows the legs to fall into the slots, letting the tripod fall flat. The two slots in the legs allow you to strap the tripod to objects; I've already found this useful for strapping to my bag, strapping to oddly shaped objects when the ground isn't level or to create unique perspectives when shooting. The two 1/4"-20 threads in each legs will be interesting as well to add flash attachment points when doing macro. When the tripod is extended, the footprint is 10" in diameter between all the legs. When the tripod is flat, it's roughly 12" diameter between all the legs.- I find this helpful because often I need to know how much ground space is required when the tripod is fully extended.I'm looking forward to shooting wildlife with this tripod.I shoot prone a lot, and when I'm in the marsh, on the beach, in the snow, etc. I worry about putting my camera down when shooting prone. My entire rig is weather sealed (Pentax for the win!) but it's still nice to keep my gear dry and off the ground. This tripod had no problem holding up my DSLR with a 300mm prime lens and teleconverter attached.Tilting the camera back pretty far the entire rig would tip over eventually, but far beyond the reality of any situation I would use it in.When I swapped the 300mm out for my 16-85mm the tripod held it again with no problem.Everything felt really well balanced on it.I did not buy the matching ball head...I am using a 3-Legged-Thing ball head in all the attached photos.Related to that, the 1/4" adapter for the tripod legs had a flared end. I think this is specifically designed to work with the matching ball head sold separately... It wouldn't work with my 3LT ball head; the flared ends wouldn't let the ball head sit flush when mounted to the tripod legs.Luckily I had another adapter sitting around that worked. Just be aware of this - if you plan to use your own ball head, make sure you have an adapter that will drop down to 1/4" threads if applicable. If you're looking for a solid addition to your bag, this is worth every penny. The listing did mention a bag, but I did not receive one.The listing has a photo that does show the tripod and the ballhead with the bag, so maybe that is only for set purchases?Since I only bought the legs maybe this is why, but the listing doesn't make that clear...I will inquire with Amazon about that.Regardless these tripod legs are fantastic and I highly recommend them.

Stable
Purchased for my Nikon P1000 w/ 125x -- very heavy camera ~5#. This will support the weight easily. And is very stable and can be used on a tabletop for photographing.

Not perfect, but amazing product! Read this honest review!
IMPRESSION 5/5I bought this tripod for my 3 axis gimbal, and it works as it supposed to. It looks really amazing, it looks very professional, it doesn't look cheap at all. it looks very sturdy.BUILD QUALITY 5/5This is well built! I do not want to try to step on it (As seen on the sample pics) to try if it really is sturdy. But I know for sure that it is. when set on to any position, there are no shaking, loose parts.FUNCTION 4/5One thing I really love about this is the 1/4 thread holes on each of the tripod legs. I primarily bought this for my gimbal, and I wouldn't have to worry about where to screw it extra accessories such as external monitor, mic, etc.It has a 1/4 to 3/8 screw adapter. Maybe it's just me, but who would use a 3/8 adapter on a small tripod like this. I think it's stupid. Anyway, I still think it's nice of them to include it just in case I will ever need them. But I know for sure that it will stay inside my drawer collecting dust. The red part that rotates make the legs go to extremely flat position. I think this can be useful sometimes. There are three straps included that goes on loop to the leg hold. As seen on the pics where you can hang and secure it by the tree or pole or anything. Again, I think it's a bit stupid because why would I ever want to secure it on a certain position using this small tripod with a strap? (use a proper tripod!) To some people it might be useful, but I would doubt the safety. I have to say though, the straps quality material is superb. It is like a small car seat belt. When closing the legs, it doesn't go to an exact middle position, and you have to play it around to have all the legs centered. It's not much of a big issue, but it really bothers me. I would like to address this to the company that made this tripod, because it is an easy fix to the design flaw!PACKAGING 1/5It's really bad. It was packed in a plastic, in a box. the box is not secured. I almost lost the 3/8 screw adapter because it was packed in a small zip plastic separately in a box (I know I said the function is stupid, but I wasn't thinking of it back then). When I took the tripod out everything else flew and dropped apart. THERE ARE NO CASE INCLUDED (take note)OVERALL 4/5This has extra features that I think it's stupid but I can just ignore them. I still got a tripod I primarily want. a very sturdy one. The 1/4 holes on the legs is a plus. 4/5 just because of the annoying design flaw of the legs when closed. Also because there's no case included, even a normal pouch. I recommend this product over the other ones out there. While there are definitely cheaper than this one, you get what you pay for with this!

Prompt Delivery
Packaging is fine, delivery weeks ahead, and the straps are actually useful.I didnt think i would need but it comes in handy especially if you go hiking alone and if you have a skinny tree/ branch to tie this onto and take a selfie from head height instead of lugging a tripod around.Even if you go for a jog along the trail this can fit in your camel back and take selfies with mates using your camera and a phone attachment device, which doesn't weigh a thing. You can also do this in the urban area as some poles are not too wide and the rubber legs give it a non-slip grip. The product is solid and good quality.Cheers!

Quality price for a quality product
Need to keep an allen key handy to tighten up the tripod legs every now and again. That said, it's all metal, very strong, sturdy, and the quarter inch threads on each tripod leg is very handy. The price is the icing on the cake...I can't complain:-)
