Great for small devices or emergencies.
If you're only counting on this to charge your phone or other device using only solar power you might need something with a bigger solar panel. This unit takes a long time to charge if you rely solely on the sun. If you charge it via USB and let the sun keep it topped-off you'll be in good shape for charging most devices. At full capacity I can get 50-60% charge on my Samsung GS4 if the phone is totally depleted. That's not too bad if you're in a pinch but for more frequent charging I would recommend the Orange Joos.

It works, but don't rely on solar if you don't have to
I have one of the tiny Anker "lipstick" chargers and it outperforms this unit, by a long shot. The solar option is nice (and the reason I bought this) but you have to be PERFECTLY angled at the sun to get a (very, very slow) charge. If a gnat flies across it, I'd say it would cease the charge. The main annoyance is that the little indicator that shows you if you are actually getting a solar charge is so hard to see when it is positioned to charge, its almost useless. If you HAVE to have solar in this price range, its ok, but I would plan to be charging it from AC or DC whenever possible, and it does that very well.

though it is much better used as a battery pack
It worked well for about a year, though it is much better used as a battery pack. I left it in the sun for about a month and managed to get one extra LED to light up on the charge meter. I left it on the dash of my truck on a hot summer day about a year after I got it and it "blew up." Something inside bulged outward and bent the solar panel. After that, it no longer worked.

I feel fortunate that such a product exists.
Getting my supplies ready for hiking the AT I found myself feeling very fortunate to find a product such as this.I use a bottom line Motorola Cell and a Bayer Contour USB glucose meter for my diabetic care. Both of my devices charge in just more than an hour using this device. I find that funtastic.I know the solar panel does little for those with high-end phone/toys. The small solar panel is only a half watt and that is in the best sunlight/condition ( 0.100a * 5V = .500W or 1/2 watt)(a*v=W). My devices are turned off during hiking/packing until I have a need and there is where this device works for me. During my few months on the trail the Brunton Freedom will be more than adequate for my charging. I also love the small dim led light built in.If your going to bring a high-end toy on the AT you may want to buy a gas generator to pull behind you.As I stated, Funtastic!!!!Peace be to the journey!!!

the good n bad
When the battery indicators goes down to 1single light u cannot charge anything. N the solar panel absorb light really slow.maybe its a new set still ned sometimes to warm up.but over all it function like a spare batt .

Great back up for that emergency call!
Great emergency charger! I was skeptical about its abilities being solar, but I couldn't be happier so far! I charged it with the usb the first time and it did a great job charging my phone back up. I wouldn't recommend this as your daily charger obviously, but in a pinch its a great back up. I haven't attached it to the outside of my bag and hiked yet letting it charge but as soon as I do I'll weigh in!

I wish I could sell this, but I’d be cheating anyone that bought it.
This unit has never once charged any of my Apple products.
