Elements which may challenge the Russian reader beginning with the language, and with reading Russian literature, namely poetry, are expertly dealt with by Michael Basker in this edition of Pushkin's 'Bronze Horseman.'As well as the glossary, incredibly detailed notes at the back of the book and the stresses placed in the Russian text itself, Basker gives an excellent description of Pushkin's use of iambic meter in the text as well as his own view on how one could read the text (Basker follows on from Lotman and discusses 'nodes' in the poem which combine and recombine together to give multiple meanings and readings).A very informative edition of Pushkin's masterpiece.
