Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power

I bought this book a couple months ago to add to my collection of art books and I was not disappointed. It an amazing quality book, it is a nice size & weight, and the hardcover & pages feel really nice.The text is well written, and remains engaging & informative without being dry like some art history books can be. The images are beautiful & I loved the wide array of artists and their work shown.I think this book is an amazing way to hear the stories of many black artists who may unfortunately be looked over by many art history books and classrooms. These amazing artists voices continue to shine through their work, and the themes depicted are still all too relevant today. A really powerful collection of work! I would recommend it to anybody (and have, lol)!

Worth the price

The book on my coffee table add is like a perfect conversation starter for anyone that sees it. It large colorful and a pleasure to page through

This was a landmark exhibition and the catalogue contains well written essays and an important group of artists. If you are a student of post-war art, this is an essential book to own.

Some of the artists, like Charles White, are getting their due these days, but this show covered so many unknown artists and movements, and I wondered why they were not better known. Beautiful art, good text describing scenes that, most likely because of their location out of NYC and because they were not white, are shamefully unknown in this country.
