A no holds barred, brutally honest masterpiece.
I read up this book in two weeks flat in this month. Brilliant, brutally honest to the core and makes one shudder to think about the systematic planned assaults on the entire political, judicial and executive system of our country by the present dispensation. It is shocking to read some very alarming details of the plans made by the majority party in these 10 years of their rule regarding the minorities and systematically eliminating them from the mainstream. Democracy is in peril. One may argue that the author is biased in his outlook but hard facts along with clear pinpointed instances of the incidents narrated makes one sit up and take notice. By now we all know what the present dispensation agenda is. Nothing to hide. No more cloak, all daggers are out.I'm surprised that this book is still available and not banned as a threat to the present regime. All in all, a great read penned by a wonderful, factual author who has gone about stating facts calmly without the drama or hullabaloo. Full credit to Mr. Prabhakar Parakala for penning this book.

Complex Critique in simple language
I have just read Parakala Prabhakar’s THE CROOKED TIMBER OF NEW INDIA. It has been an enriching experience. We all know that India presently consists of two antagonistic sections, the first one uncritically supportive of every action and policy of the present central government and its prime minister, while the second group believes that the path chosen by the ruling dispensation is not only harming the country economically, socially, and morally, but is also destroying the Republic of India as we know it. I belong to the second section and I find that THE CROOKED TIMBER … presents a comprehensive, incisive, evidence-based critique of the present government since 2014. Personally, I will request my friends (from both the camps) to read it. Every Indian who cares for India needs to read this book, which is eminently readable and it presents complex arguments in simple language that everyone will be able to follow.I believe that the supporters of the government—those who care to read it—will find the book disturbing. But I do hope at least some of them will see the present timber of our nation in its true colours, beyond the blinding storm of propaganda and fake news. I do hope it will happen. And if it does, it will be a great contribution to India by the author. Thank you Mr. Parakala Prabhakar.

An bold piece of work.
In the times where even a contrarian view is named anti-national, Pararkala Prabhakar gives his erudite view of the happenings that is not discussed in the media or in public.

Unapologetic
Parkala doesn't hold back in expressing his views on the most pressing matters that may well define the future of this great republic.

A Must Read
The title of the book “The Crooked Timber of New India – Essays on a Republic in Crisis” intrigued me and caught my attention. The book is a collection of essays written between 2020 and 2022 and captures contemporary events and government policy decisions. It is a critique of the government, its policies, and a critique of the person in charge of the government and his ideology. When every media outlet vying to be the spokesperson for the government, it is important to read the few authors who don’t toe the government line. I read the forward and picked this book as my next read.A must-read for everyone who wants to understand what is happening around us. This book captures the events affecting us and our society and democracy as they happen. It is documenting the present times when most of the media is happy being the spokesperson of the government. I can’t stress enough how important this book is. Most of us know that the timber has been crooked, but what they don’t know is how difficult it will be for us to get this fixed. The book tells the readers in detail how crooked it is and why it will be difficult to fix it. Go for it.

Governance of the present day at Center
Extraordinary book by Shri Parakala Prabhakar. Fantastic presentation with facts and figures. Book will immerse you in reading. Kudos to the writer for showing dark side of the present day government at centre and it's die hard anti citizens policy without mincing words. A few may disagree. But fact is always bitter. Hats off to the writer for his prolific writing style.

Engaging Book but lacks balance
The essays seem to be based on authentic data and make for engaging reading. The issue with this book is that it lacks balance. Every government does good things and not so good things. It always helps to have a balanced perspective rather than a rant of only things that are wrong.

The author bases his conclusions supported by facts and figures. His opinion therefore carries weight. I found him very convincing.
