Pablo’s Smokehouse
Great wood. Used in a Kamado to smoke pork shoulder and beef joints and the flavour is fantastic. Night and day vs the Weber wood chips that the garden centres sell. One chunk seems to last about 2 hours which is enough to get a gorgeous pink smoke ring. The smoke was quite strong on pork, milder in beef so I’d suggest doubling up if you want really smokey beef.It seems to need the temperature to be over 250 deg F to burn properly. My Kamado cooled down to around 225 and when I got the temp back up to 275-300 again a healthy smoke was coming out of the chimney.I’ll be buying again. Shame they don’t seem to sell Mesqiite even though the box has a tick for it?And people stop moaning that the box contents isn’t 5kg because of the box weight. These are chunks of wood ffs. I’d rather not get sawdust added to get the net weight to exactly 5kg. Mine weighed 5.15kg on delivery inc box.

Worth the price
My main impression with this deal was the quantity of wood for the price. 5kg for £20 is pretty good compared with most of the items on offer that I have seen. The wood pieces are slightly curved and you can see they have genuinely been cut from a barrel. Might seem obvious but could be important to someone!! having said that I can't smell any whisky aroma on them.Used one chunk, not soaked, straight on the charcoal in my water smoker and stuck a medium chicken in the top section. The chunk eventually flamed but produced a fair amount of smoke and the chicken was a pleasant light golden colour with a not-overpowering smoke aroma. For a longer smoke I will soak these, but all in all a nice flavor of smoke and a good quantity of wood for the price. Recommended.

great product but expensive
I have used this to make an excellent smoked brisket. It added great flavour to the meat with the salt and pepper. I couldnt taste hints of whiskey though. It is quite expensive for what it is

Great product at good value
I bbq regularly and finding affordable wood chunks is brilliant. This offered excellent value compared to other options online - and I've looked far and wide!I ordered the hickory chunks for my Weber kettle. The chunks are good quality and it's clear that they've been stored well. Some hickory chunks are hefty, which will lend itself well to long low and slow smokes using the minion method.Bbqing in the UK can be challenging, as the products are often US based and prices and availability can be a nightmare. 'Grilling Wood' is a small British company and it's great to support that in the world of bbq. Also, when I've contacted them with a query the customer service has been top class and they went above and beyond.I've ordered olive, oak and orange from them. The quality across these different species has been high and the company will be my 'go to' for a product that I go through a lot of.

Phenominal Smoke Flavour
I've been cooking with different wood varieties for decades now, and decided to try a whiskey barrel for laughs. I've tried whiskey barrel wood chips before and they were worthless; zero flavor added. Not so with these actual barrel chunks! As you would expect, the inside of the barrel chunk is already charcoal, as they fire each barrel before the whiskey is added; this is how they add more flavour to a whiskey. That also lets the whiskey soak deeper into the barrel, imparting an incredible smell the the wood. The smell alone is very subtle, but once you light the wood on fire, the smoke is unlike anything I've tried before (and I've used oak, post oak, mesquite, hickory, pecan, alder, grape vine, and others forgotten). This works incredibly well for all meats, as I've tried it on both chicken and beef to great success.

Great wood to burn
The wood chunks range in sizes which is helpful depending on what you are cookin and you can smell the whiskey when you open the box. They burn well and give off a good scent which flavours the food nicely. For a 6 / 7 hour cook you’ll need about 5-6 chunks depending on the size you get out. Once these run out I will be buying more.

No problem with weight, good product
Quite a few reviews on here about short measures (weight) but I had no such problems. Paid for 5kg of wood and the box arrived stating a shipping weight of 5.6kg, I weighed it and it was 5.6kg, the box is a lot lighter than 5.6kg so very pleased. The wood chunks are very consistent so no mixing going on and I sitting here watching good smoke from the offset while smoking some beef ribs.

Good size chunks and adds a great flavours
Great smoke flavour espicially pork shoulder and ribs. Word of like a few more chunks. But was enough for 2 big BBQ evenings for my barrel smoker.
