Great for beginners
Great for a beginner. However it would be easier to use if the mouth of the container would be larger. Adding more flour while trying to get my kids to help definitely made a mess, but it was fun to start a new sourdough.

Quality, Value, and Expectations met with exceeding satisfaction having purchased this product.
This is, in fact, my second additional purchase through Amazon of a Sourdough Starter kit, and my FIRST from ZUNMIAL. Truth be told I own four Sourdough Jars, each from a different manufacturer, and THIS ONE is the most satisfying to date. What sets Zunmial apart immediately, is the quality of the kit.Especially, the breathable, fabric jar cover. OUTSTANDING design, materials, and construction, are evident right out of the box. Of the four manufactured jar kits I own, the first had a cloth cover that was poorly made, and only lasted a couple of months. Two others used barely enough fabric and elastic gathered so tightly to fit the top of the jar, that getting a proper fit is a chore in itself.Gladly, ZUNMIAL understands that securing a cloth cover into place should NOT be a complicated task because a manufacturer is so predisposed in costs, materials, and quality of components, customers are left to wrestle an ill-fitting cloth cover in place. The material is woven from heavier gauge fibers, which outclass so many other kits with higher asking prices. The silicone jar spatula is very well made and very consistent quality among other competitors. The glass jar is a heavier grade, durable, and made for years of reliability. The temperature sticker exhibits solid adhesive properties, easily legible and reliable. The elastic fabric day/time/level feeding indicator is easy to understand, and very useful. The metal lid also secures quickly and conveniently.I paid twice as much for the Sourdough Starter Kit I ordered previous to this, but hands down, the ZUNMIAL Sourdough Starter Kit offers GREAT Quality, Value, and Reliability whether for home use, traveling, or as a gift. The ONLY upgrade I believe would make this kit markedly better would be a longer spatula. Depending on the consistency of your sourdough starter and the size of your hands (I am a male with hands that don't always cooperate with me), you may find yourself needing a bit more leverage than the standard 9.5-inch silicone jar spatula to make quick, efficient use of your effort in stirring ingredients together.Great Product!!!

Really good quality and great value
This sourdough starter kit is nicer than I expected. It was packaged very well and the instructions that were included are far better than anything I ever get from unusual brands. Everyone typically uses YouTube or other sources for instructions, but I just have to commend that the instructions included with this kit were illustrated and professionally laid out with large enough fonts to read. I'm so used to getting instructions that are machine translated and printed on a font that's too tiny for me to read, that it just stood out to me. The band that you use to mark your yeast starter level is elastic instead of rubber so it moves around on the glass easilyI was already using a mason jar with plastic wrap covering the opening, and you really want to have a jar with straight sides like this one because you're always pouring out some of the mixture when you feed it and if the jar has a narrower neck, it's difficult to scrape the sides and that area of the jar will get caked with dried up starter and your active starter will come into contact with that every time you pour some out. Also I think it's going to help to have the cloth cover that will let my yeast get a bit more oxygen.

Nice jars but not the best for sourdough
I bought two of these. I'd used the Cambro one quart tubs (https://www.amazon.com/Cambro-RFS1PP190-Polypropylene-Storage-Container/dp/B001E0JMEU/) for years, but I recently bought a Sourdough Home incubator from Brod & Taylor and the Cambro tubs didn't quite fit inside because of the handles on the sides of the tubs. What I liked about these glass jars:• I like glass over plastic• The glass is heavy and thick; they feel sturdy and like they wouldn't break easily• They're very clear so you can really see what your starting is doingHowever, I don't find them particularly good for sourdough starter for two reasons:1) They are so narrow that the only way to mix the starter is with the spatula that comes with the jar, and especially as I scaled up my starter it was difficult to get a good mix. I much prefer to mix by hand—it's easier, it gives me a better feel for the starter and I can ensure a much more complete mix.2) They are difficult to clean. The easiest way to clean up a container that had sourdough in it is to let it sit for several hours to overnight until the remains of the starter dry out completely. You can then just scrape the inside of the container with a spatula and the dry flakes fall out, after which it is easy to clean up the tiny bit of residue that is left behind. But in these glass jars even after drying the remains stick really hard to the glass and you still end up with a somewhat messy and time consuming cleanup process.Other problems with them:• One of the two sets I received was missing the cloth cover. I've seen other reviewers also received some without the cloth covers. As near as I could tell, Amazon doesn't provide a way to communicate to this seller. The only option Amazon offered was to return the entire kit and get another one. It wasn't important enough to me to go through that, or to create the waste and carbon footprint of a return. And since I'm not going to use these for my starter I don't really need it.• I found the temperature strips useless. The temperature indication is so faint it's almost impossible to read, and I don't think it's very accurate.• The black band is easy to put on but I prefer just using a thin rubber band that doesn't cover up so much of the starter.I'm going back to my Cambro tubs. They are very easy to mix in by hand. If you let the starter remains dry they are super easy to clean up. I highly recommend them for sourdough starter. For myself, I'm going to cut one of the handles off of each of a couple of the tubs, and then they'll fit inside the Sourdough Home device.
