Good for cooking Indian dishes
Great size for tadka. Fits all the spices we need for whatever Indian dish we happen to be cooking. Excellent quality and heat distribution. It cleans easily too!

A handsomely made, high quality tadka pan from India
For serious cooks. The 1.5 Hawkins tadka pan is compared to a standard 1 cup measure in my photo to give you an idea of size and scale. I include a photo of the box it came in to show that it is really from India. This is a heavyweight stainless steel pan that is a handsome instrument to have in the kitchen for making tadka. Originally I wanted to just buy a cheap and flimsy model, the kind with a stand or a notch in the handle, but I am very glad I didn't, because the cheap ones are nonstick and I try to avoid Teflon and nonstick coatings. As indicated in the product description. the Hawkins tadka pan is deliberately "unbalanced" so that you MUST hold it at all times over the gas burner ring while you are making tadka. You cannot set it down and walk away as it will tip. This is an intentional and excellent product safety feature to prevent your tadka or stove from catching fire, as you are heating up hot oil in small quantities. The manufacturers recommend handwash only. So far my pan seems fine after being washed in the top rack of a dishwasher.

Inaccurate description-Incompatible with induction stove!
The product description claims it is compatible with induction stoves, but it is not. My induction stove sensor did not recognize it at all. Very disappointed!!!!Additionally, it doesn’t stay stable on the flat induction surface.

Unbalanced due to heavier handle
The handle is substantially heavier than the kadhai. You have to keep holding otherwise the kadhai can tip off which can be messy at best and hazardous at worst if you havent been paying proper attention. Please make sure that you’re holding the handle when you heat anything in it so it doesnt get unbalanced.This kadhai is also the only stainless steel one on amazon. Rest are actually coated with nonstick. So if you’re trying to avoid nonstick , this is your best bet. Till someone fixes the balancing problem
