Two weeks camping with a group, no issues
We used the combination of water softener and water filter from this company on a two-week camping trip with about a dozen friends. The water at the site is health-department certified potable, but it's laden with iron, sulfur, and calcium, tastes terrible, stains clothing, and (so I'm told -- not an issue for a bald guy like me) is nasty for washing long hair. The water coming out of the combo of filter and softener is clear, great for washing dishes and for the camp shower, and tastes just fine for drinking. Camping for two weeks in extremely hot conditions, twelve people used quite a bit of water, but we experienced no degradation in the output quality. The softener can be regenerated at home or even onsite, using ordinary sodium chloride (table salt) purchased at a grocery store. That's a great feature for DIY maintenance between outings, and if we ever had a larger turnout it's nice to know a quick town-run for salt would keep us drinking good water. The filter is theoretically DIY maintainable but its estimated media life is such that I'll probably be too old to go camping before that's needed. One nice feature that I'd like to call out is the inclusion of caps for the inlet and outlet. No matter how well you drain the unit before coming home, there's going to be a little water inside, and the caps keep it from dripping in the vehicle. After thoroughly drying it out at home, I'll also reinstall the caps to keep insects from nesting in the fittings while it's in storage. The device and its accessories and fittings are all well-made, the instructions are clear and detailed, and it works great. Five stars.

Highly Recommended for Anyone with Hard Water Problems
I bought it for my new apartment in San Jose, which has rock hard water coming out of the shower head, totally worth it. Worked as described and has made a noticeable difference. Needed a little bit of plumbing knowledge to install the system properly if you plan to use it for your shower. Highly recommended for anyone dealing with hard water issues.

No leaks, no mess, no fuss!
I experienced no problems with leaks of any kind…just don’t strip the threads when reassembling after any recharge is performed.

Poor packaging
The product arrived with the end of a garden hose poking partially out of the box! That hose end had worn through the wrap around the tank and made a big scratch in the fiberglass tank. I hooked it up to water and it is not leaking. It has good flow through the tank and I saw no leak at the scratch. Water tasted good but I have not used it to wash anything yet. Seems to be a good product so far but the packing of the water hose is not acceptable. Need more work on how to package the hose with the tank to prevent this damage.

Love it
Works great, even in hard water; it softens to some degree.

Works fantastic
My wife and I travel the country in our RV and recently purchased this water softener. A water softener is a must have if you plan on spending long periods of time anywhere there is hard water. Hard water is found everywhere in the South West USA. Hard water will make your skin dry and itchy. It can weaken your hair. It also makes clothes not get as clean when washed. This water softener is compact and attractive. It comes with everything you need to quickly hook up and enjoy the area you are exploring without having to worry about the effects of hard water. I highly recommend this product. Pro tip: keep the box it’s packaged in. It is perfect for storing and protecting it while traveling to your next destination.

Excellent portable softener
I live in an apartment in Vegas. Water is very hard here (around 25 gpg). I first bought a 16000 grain portable softener that was a flop. Reading the flow meter I installed, that one filtered 200 gallons of water before having to regen, which meant regen around every 4 to 5 days, very impractical. Then I bought this 32000 grain from HG Lifestyles. World of a difference. At 32000 grain and 25 gpg water, filtered water yield should be around 1200 gallons. Out of the box and installed, it provided 1000 gallons of soft water in our shower. Please keep in mind that my wife and baby boy use warmer water which decreases yield from my understanding. Anyways, just did my first regen since I bought it and I'm hoping to get at least 1000 gallons of soft water again. Will update this review if I can when I regen again. But for now, anyone needing a portable water softening solution this one is the way to go.

Don't forget to buy the external water filter that will hold your salt.
The brine solution is great. It does remove a lot of impurities from the water. The problem is, you need to make sure that you have the external filter that will be used to hold the softening salt. The salt is the key to making your water soft. The instructions for the softener only tell you this when you read the regeneration step of the setup.

Terrific product.. saved thousands of dollars in spending for whole home water softener. Installed it for my washroom and the water is 100% soft. Checked using hardness test kit as well.. highly recommended.. Just be careful if you want to use this for your washroom shower then you need to get an adaptor to connect to your shower. Just get two of these so that one you can use for input and other for output to shower.. 3/4” GHT Male x 1/2” NPT Male Connector

I actually rigged this up in my condo. With two people showering this unit last about 2 weeks before I need to recharge it. Seems to work well to add about 4-5 cups of salt each time, then let it sit overnight. It doesn’t soften like the big units, but i check it with a hardness test each time and it definitely softens the water.
