Easy to use and works well
My 1Tb external drive failed, and could not be recognised by File Explorer on either my PC or my laptop. I thought all my data had been lost, but I achieved full recovery by using this product, which I therefore heartily recommend. As usual the instructions could be better, and might not be entirely clear to someone not used to this kind of exercise, but I had no problems in hooking things up and successfully using the product. In short, crack open the case of your failed drive and take out the drive itself, remove the component board which offers the USB connection to the outer world (just one little screw on my drive, and slide it carefully off), attach the three-way magic gizmo to your USB drive on the computer, to the SATA connector on the drive, and the mains. Switch on, and if it was the component board that had failed all will be well. File Explorer will read your drive directly, and you can transfer all your 'lost' files back. Worked a treat for me. Other reviewers have commented unfavourably on physical aspects of the supplied items in the box, but I found nothing to complain about - every part is well made and looks good. The set is comprehensive, and can be used with old IDE drives as well, so even ancient data may be recoverable!

Easy Use but No USB3 for me.
Product is easily assembled and powered on. Takes a few tries to start up properly. For me, the USB3 connection did not work, and the product doesn't seem to have any drivers. Eventually, I got it to work, USB2 dontcha know. Anyway, it now functions perfectly and I have been able to recover a 2TB drive from a 1TB drive computer. I recommend patience and trying all the options with this equipment.

Cheap and effective
I bought this with some trepidation as some reports were not good! I found it very easy to use from the directions given. As it's made of plastic be careful to line all connectors up and don't try to force it. Worked brilliantly with older IDE hard drives. I tried several with similar results. Excellent value for money.

Great! Especially for HDDs from video recorders & other oddly configured HDDs
I needed to transfer data/images/videos from an old video recorder HDD, but the configuration of the data ports and power socket/port meant that the drive wouldn't fit into a 'standard', fixed position docking station, so I plumped for this set up. The 3-way dock comes complete with a A-type male-to-A-type male USB cable, power supply & power connector (dock-to-drive). The IDE & SATA ports are on a different side form the USB, PSU & power cable connections, which means there does not have to be a fixed distance between any set of ports - data & power - this means that you can access 'oddly' configured drives, such as those from an HDD-DVD video player/recorder. The only niggle I have with this docking station is that the USB cable is very stiff (cheap?) & the plug very loose in the USB sockets (both ends), consequently the connections kept getting dropped. This was easily solved by purchasing a replacement USB cable - I bought the 50cm SNANSHI braided cable, which is great. With the new cable the data transfer was fast & flawless.

Power supply broke as I was pulling it our of the socket! Not good.
This unit worked well for the few months that I had it. I was shocked but not physically to see the power supply back came off while trying to unplug it from the socket! This is dangerous folks. I am sure my unit had been used before when I received it new as one of the pin connectors had the plastic pulled away from it. It is soft. I will try to get a refund.

Worked Perfectly
Bought this to read some old 3.5" HDs on a Macbook because I don't have a desktop PC at the moment. It worked perfectly with everything I plugged in, ranging from a 20GB ATA-100 drive that's about 20 years old to a fairly recent 2TB SATA drive. One of the old IDE drives did take about 30 seconds to be recognised, I initially thought it was dead but it got there in the end, so give it time if the disk doesn't show up immediately. Very happy with my purchase, would recommend.
