Shadowfever: A Mackayla Lane Novel Mass Market Paperback – 15 Oct. 2011

I kinda ploughed my way through this book. I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy it but I found myself bored about half way through and only persevered through my love of Barrons and MacKayla! This series started well...promised a great story line and then kind of meandered through it all. Nothing much happened...something happened..nothing happened, something happened...I have to admit though that something kept me reading. The whole Unseelie King story annoyed me and I didn’t like it. I don’t know if this if the end of MacKayla and Barrons but it’s as far as I’m prepared to go. Could have been 3 books instead of 5 with some serious editing and a lot less of MacKayla’s inner monologue!! Not a book to re-read but would make a cool movie!

I've just found this author and read the first 5 books of this series in a week - and I have loved them all. This final book I like both most and least of all for different reasons. I hated it at the beginning because of who was dead - it slayed me. I couldn't put the book down til I found out the truth in this and I had a very hard job staying off book review websites to reassure myself everything would be okay. So the emotional rollercoaster is there. Then the ending and the HEA conclusion I hope for delivered, and made me very happy.Despite the 5 stars, it's not perfect (but then what is?). Things I didn't like included the vast amount of internal dialogue and all that meadering in the silvers which was a little tedious, though probably important to enable Mac to change in the way she needs to. And then the romantic ending and Barrons' back-plot conclusions felt rushed. If I was the woman in that romance I'd still see the guy as potentially about to disappear at any time and I'd at least have asked if he was going to stay with me. Maybe I needed the reassurance more than the character did!I half wonder whether there was a more dramatic, not quite so happy ending originally planned, and it got changed last minute.Either way, it shouldn't put you off and I'm nitpicking. The series is fantastic, the characters are so well drawn. I so wanted Barrons to break and the way Moning handled him was just right.

This is a great series of books which I found hard to put down. I've read the first five and will review them collectively. The synopsis can be found elsewhere, but I really liked Mac (the female protagonist) and I thought the grief she experienced over losing her sister was complex and well executed. Her relationship with the men in her life was intriguing and all of the characters were written with both light and dark characteristics. The author sometimes wrote the POV in both past and present tense which I found a little odd, but the story line was so compelling that it wasn't a distraction. My only other niggle is that there were quite a few Americanisms (and I don't mean Dani O'Malley who was trying to emulate Mac) for example here in the UK we don't use the term 'candy bar' or celebrate Halloween in quite the same way as Americans do which indicates a lack of research by the author. However, I admit to being super fussy, so a four (and a half) star rating is praise indeed. Definitely worth a read!

What a finale!I love this series. It has everything: Strong characters, a great plot with unexpected twists and turns. Every time you think you know, the story takes you totally by surprise!I love the way the characters have evolved over the series; especially Mac, who is embracing her darker side and Barrons, who allows his human nature to shine through more often.I also like the fact that the characters are all 'real' in a sense, that none of them is deep, dark black or purely white. They are not what they seem at first sight.Great series and I will definitely be reading all the books in this series.

Absolutely loved the Fever Series, and Shadowfever was without a doubt the best of the five. I was hooked from book one. I loved Mac, I liked seeing her grow as a character from a somewhat spoilt young girl in book one, to that of a driven young woman by book five. The relationship between Mac and Barrons was addictive, frustrating and all consuming at the same time! I couldn't get enough. Barrons, the mystery behind the man/beast... Not all of our questions were answered and to be honest I don't ever want them to be! I like the mystery and the intrigue and as a reader, by book five, like Mac I found I no longer needed all the answers. I am excited to see Mac and Barrons return in Burned, and I would never say no to finding out a bit more!The plot throughout all five books of the Fever Series is so complex and detailed that even on the third reading I was still discovering things I had missed first time round. Some may find that frustrating but the fact that I have gone back to this series a few times tells me that this is something special.I cannot wait to see some of the other characters explored further in the next three books. I have waited for ages for Iced to be released on Kindle but have given in and ordered the paperback now it is released.I really cannot say in words how great this series is. It far exceeded my expectations, reading all five books back to back, I was well and truly hooked. I have read a few things since, and nothing can quite compare to this; I am a Fever Series addict and KMM has set the bar extremely high.

So viele Fragen (Wer ist das Monster? Was ist mit Christian passiert, nachdem Mac und er sich in den Spiegeln verloren haben? Wer hat Alina getötet? Welche der beiden Prophezeiungen wird sich für Mac erfüllen? Warum träumt Mac ständig von der weißen Villa und der schönen Frau? Was verbirgt sich in Barrons Gewölbe unter der Garage? Warum hat es das Shinsar Dubh nur auf Mac abgesehen? Konnte Jericho Jack und Rainey Lane retten? Wer war der Vierte in der Kirche, der sich vor Mac verborgen hielt? Bekommt Mac Ihre lang ersehnte Rache? Gibt es für JZB und MacKayla ein Happy End? Wer ist der DreamyEyedBoy und welche Rolle hat er in all diesen Ränkespielen? Wie steht um V'lane seit er im Korridor der verbotenen Bibliothek verschwunden ist? Gelingt es, die Bestie ein für alle mal gefangen zu nehmen? ,... usw - und in diesen aufgeführten Fällen hat Karen IN JEDEM FALL eine Antwort für uns!^^) und auch so viele lang ersehnte Antworten!Nicht immer sind es die Antworten, die wir erwartet haben. Oft haben wir sie noch nicht einmal erahnt... Aber bei der fünf-jährigen Reise durch die Dunkelheit, steht Licht am Ende des Tunnels. Es ist ein bittersüßes Ende; ein perfekter und verdienter Abschluss der Fever-Serie.Shadowfever ist eine einzige Achterbahnfahrt. Wann immer man glaubt, nun endlich die Antwort auf eine zermürbende Frage gefunden zu haben: be aware folks; the answer is still around the next corner. Go ahead! It's worth the ride!^^Mein Fazit: Wer die deutsche Veröffentlichung nicht mehr erwarten kann, sollte sich Shadowfever unbedingt bestellen! Karens Englisch ist für mich sehr verständlich, im Gegensatz zu manch anderen Autoren, bei denen sich mein Gehirn beim inneren Übersetzen echt verkrampft.*lach* Dreamfever hatte ich auch bereits im Original gelesen.Shadowfever ist episch, emotional (beim lesen des ersten Kapitels musste ich tatsächlich weinen, so sehr hat mich Mac's Verlust mitgenommen...-_-), spannend, erotisch, traurig, unverhofft... und so viel mehr, als ich zu hoffen gewagt habe! (Als Shadowfever am 19. Januar bei mir ankam habe ich zwei Tage nahezu durchgelesen. Seitdem tut mir das Steißbein weh, weil ich chronisch darauf herumgesessen habe.*grins* Aber ich konnt das wunderschöne Buch beim besten Willen nicht aus der Hand legen!)Ein würdiger Abschluss der 5-bändigen Reihe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Unbedingt lesen, wenn Ihr die vorherigen Bände gelesen habt!!!! ;o)

Ich bin sprachlos, ich bin platt, ich bin traurig, ich bin begeistert. Wow!Lange hat uns Frau Moning warten lassen auf die Auflösung. Sehnsüchtig wurde von den Fans dieser Reihe der letzte Band erwartet - und er hat alle Ansprüche, Hoffnungen und Wünsche erfüllt!Ich muss in dieser Rezension weiter ausholen, um beschreiben zu können, was an diesen Band für hohe Erwartungen geknüpft waren.Vier Bände langen haben wir mit Mac gelacht, gekämpft, geweint, sind verzweifelt - es war eine Achterbahn der Gefühle. Dabei ist insgesamt gar nicht viel Zeit vergangen, seit sie nach Dublin kam um den Mord an ihrer Schwester aufzuklären - und feststellen musste, dass es Dinge und Wesen gibt, von denen sie nicht den Hauch einer Ahnung hatte.Mac ist in diesen Bänden auf einem Rachefeldzug einerseits; sie sucht den Mörder ihrer Schwester und will herausfinden, warum sie sterben musste. Andererseits stellt sie schnell fest, das die Sache komplexer und komplizierter ist als sie ahnte und sie eigentlich auf der Suche nach den eigenen Wurzeln ist.Wer noch gedacht hat der Cliffhanger im dritten Band wäre fies, der wurde von Frau Moning eines Besseren belehrt, denn der vierte Band endete noch viel fieser. Alle rätselten, welches Biest Mac da am Ende des vierten Bandes umgebracht hat. KMM wandte sich in einem Nachwort an uns Leser und Fans und versprach, wir werden alles verstehen wenn wir erst den letzten Band gelesen hätten und dass alles gut wird. Doch wie definiert sie gut?Und dann ist da noch die große Frage, die sich wie ein roter Faden durch alle Bände zieht und die in vielen Foren diskutiert wurde: Wer oder was ist Jericho Barrons?Atemlos habe ich dieses Buch verschlungen und wurde von einer Täuschung in die nächste geführt. Einfach genial, was sich KMM für dieses Finale ausgedacht hat. Nach dem ersten Kapitel habe empört aufgeschrien, dachte noch, dass kann doch nicht sein. Aber Frau Moning hatte einen Plan - und dieser war ein echtes Meisterstück.Frau Moning, ich verneige mich - das war grandios! Niemals hätte ich gedacht, dass es so kommt wie es kam aber ich hätte es nicht besser oder anders haben wollen. Diese Reihe gehört zu meinen Lieblingsbüchern, denn sie sticht aus dem Einheitsbrei der Fantasybücher ganz klar heraus.Leider kann ich nur 5 Sterne vergeben - für mich aber ist dieses Buch jetzt schon mein Highlight des Lesejahres 2011!!

Als ich es in der Post hatte , konnte ich das Buch kein moment weg legen und hab es in 1 Tag verschlungen !!!Sehr Spannend ,Erotisch und Düster und mit Liebe !!! ;)Die Handlungen sind wie immer Klasse :) Mac ist einfach Mac mit ein wenig mehr Biss und mit weniger Pink xD !!Will nich zu viel Verraten ,aber Viele wichtige Fragen werden Beantwortet und man wurde oft Überrascht da man viele sachen nicht vorhersehen konnte wie wer nun wirklich der Unseelie König ist, was mit dem Buch Passiert ,wer macs Leibliche Mutter ist , was Mac ist ,welche der prophezeiung eintrifft und vorallem werrrrrr Alina getötet hat( das war ein schock für mich als ich das lass ) !! hatte mehrmals einen verdacht und lag wie immer falsch xD denke wie ihr auch ;)Natürlich gibt es auch wieder viel zu lachen und zu schmunzeln da ich noch einige fragen hätte ...aber vil gibt es ja doch irgendwann noch einen Teil !!Alles in einem das beste Buch der Reihe !!Ein muss für alle Fever -Fans !!

sich jetzt bereits DreamWorks die Filmrechte gesichert haben. Mit gutem Grund! Die Bücher sind allesamt sehr gut geschrieben und spannend bis zuletzt. Das Konzept für diese Bücher hatte die Autorin bereits lange in ihrem Hirn gespeichert, fixfertig, mit ausgefeilten Charakteren, sogar mit Cliffhangern. Während der ganzen Zeit der Produktion litt Moning an einer schweren Zecken-induzierten Krankheit, was zu Verzögerungen führte. Aktuell schreibt sie an einem weiteren Buch, das in der Fever-Welt spielt, ich bin sehr gespannt darauf.Ein grosser Teil des fünften Buches handelt davon, dass Mac nicht weiss, wem sie vertrauen kann, wer sie selber ist, woher sie in Wirklichkeit stammt. Das Buch beginnt mit ihrer Verzweiflung darüber, dass sie Barrons umgebracht hat, sie ist aufgebracht und wütend, bereit, auf niemanden und nichts mehr Rücksicht zu nehmen. Was zu interessanten und unerwarteten Konstellationen führt. Mehr will ich nicht verraten, lest selbst!

I thoroughly enjoyed Shadowfever . Cannot put down this series. I love the story and the characters and how whenever you think you know what will happen next - there's a new twist. The only negative is that I can't imagine being able to appreciate any other book series after reading this!

From start to finish, this series is one hell of a page turner! I'm totally spellbound and can't get enough! Urban fantasy at its best. The mind boggles at how KMM comes up with all this stuff and has the talent to make you believe it :)

Attention, présence de spoilers, signaler par les balises [spoiler][/spoiler]Je donne un 5/5 pour ce final excellent et qui clôture une série qui a su gagner en maturité et rebondir tout en conservant un mélange de tragique et de merveilleux.Le livre est assez découpé, et on pourrait reprocher un aspect fragmentaire…mais il faut vraiment chercher la petite bête car les évènements sont assez différents, toujours du renouveau dans cet ultime tome.Comme depuis quelques tomes ce cinquième tome reprend là ou le quatrième s'est arrêté : La mort de la bête des mains de Ryodan et de Mac[spoiler] bon tout le monde le sait : c'est Jericho Barrons…mais alors … il est mort ?[/spoiler]Mac erre depuis un moment dans les miroirs, elle a trouvé Christian, l'a reperdue, n'imagine presque plus s'en tirer. Et pourtant.Suite à la mort de la bête qui lui servait de gardien, Mac décide de se blinder de fer : s'il faut pactiser avec l'ennemi pour mieux se retourner contre lui alors soit. Elle le fera.Notre petite Mac a bien grandit depuis le début de cette aventures : elle a appris, elle a grandit, et maintenant elle décide de rendre coups pour coups, avec les armes de l'ennemi s'il le faut.[spoiler]Elle va s'allier avec Darroc, son ennemi juré, pour retrouver le livre et retourner dans le temps, du moins l'espère-t-elle.[/spoiler]Obliger de jouer le jeu face à ses anciens alliés, Mac voit les gens qui lui tiennent à cœur se retourner contre elle, persuadés qu'elle a vite retourné sa veste “comme sa sœur”.Sombre, car Mac oscille entre rage et chagrin, trahison et déception, cette première partie prend aux tripes.[spoiler]Mais bientôt Darroc se retrouve hors jeu, et c'est Barrons qui fait sa réapparition[/spoiler]Soupçonnée par tout le monde d'avoir changé de camps, Mac n'en peut plus. Les prophéties semblent annoncer qu'elle sera un point clé de toute cette affaire, et pourtant ses parents ont l'air d'en savoir plus qu'elle !Personne n'a confiance en elle et ne partage ses informations avec elle.Pourtant elle ne va pas se décourager, elle va en partie gagner l'attention des hommes de Barrons, et en apprendre de plus en plus sur les gens qui l'entourent.Mais sa quête du meurtrier d'Alina continue : et quand Mac trouve les Unseelies responsables, il reste des questions “qui (humain ou Fae) a organisé ce meurtre ? Pourquoi ?”.La Quête du Livre Noir va devenir de plus en plus urgente, les personnalités vont se révéler, trahisons, confiance, amour (ses parents sont mignons ^^)…rien ne va être épargné à Mac 5.0 qui ne veut toujours pas lâcher le morceau.Mais dans la dernière partie tout s'accélère : on a l'impression que de plus en plus de choses se dévoilent. Qui est Mac ? Qui sont Barrons et ses hommes ? Quels sont les réels buts des Faes ? Du Livre ? Des sidhe-seers ? Que faire pour contenir le Livre ? Restaurer les murs de la prison Unseelie ? Les MacKeltar, les sidhe-seers, Barrons et ses hommes, les Fae et Mac vont-ils réussir à travailler ensemble ?Mais au-delà d'une quête de la rédemption pour les humains, décimés par les Unseelies, Mac mène également une quête identitaire. Qui est-elle vraiment ? Qui sont ses parents ?Ses questions la taraudent, et influent sur ses actions.Nous obtenons enfin les réponses à nos questions, et Karen Marie Moning a magnifiquement orchestré son œuvre : les révélations sont surprenantes, à point nommées, nombreuses…on en veut toujours plus.[spoiler]Mac n'est pas la concubine…ni le RoiRowena est derrière le meurtre de sa sœur en raison d'une ancienne prophétie…et d'une rancune tenace[/spoiler]Je vous laisse découvrir les plus surprenantes révélations, mais quand on apprend enfin qui est derrière toute cette histoire depuis le début on en reste sur les fesses.Qui l'aurait cru ?La fin (les dernières dernières pages j'entends) est peut-être un peu facile, mais après tant de rebondissements, on pardonne très facilement à l'auteur.Vous l'aurez compris, cette conclusion m'a convaincu et clôt de façon parfaite ce cycle qui restera un excellent souvenir contre toute attente.

Karen Moning has written a great series with awesome characters, keeps you riveted!

I have been waiting for seemingly foooorrrreverrrrr for this book but it was well worth the wait. :)The end of the last book was a cliff hanger that this book takes care of in a surprising way. Karen Marie Moning is an amazing author. Loved loved loved this book....the only thing critical I have to say of it was there were a few too many flashbacks.So many questions that I had about characters were answered. I am sad to say goodbye to the adventures of my favourite heroine, Mac.:(Definitely buy this book if you are a fan of the previous books and if you haven't read them buy the whole series! My favourite series by far recently !!

One of the best books of this saga, no complaint whatsoever. KMM is an awesome writer, so shadow of doubt! :) Love the fever series!

This book is absolutely amazing! This entire series is amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone! ShadowFever is so well written that the books I have read since don't compare at all to the level of skill this writer has. My favourite character is Barrons as he is so mysterious and such an original character that, the things he does never ceases to amaze me.

On a refermé "Dreamfever" sur un suspense insoutenable... On ouvre "Shadowfever" en tremblant... Et puis, c'est le choc. Notre estomac se noue, notre coeur s'arrête, nos yeux sont noyés de larmes... On crie "NON! NON! NON! C'EST PAS VRAI!"... On arrête la lecture, on veut jeter le livre par la fenêtre (mon Kindle en l'occurence)... On se demande: "Pourquoi K.M.Moning nous a fait ça?"... Puis, on se ravise. On reprend ses esprits et on continue la lecture malgré tout... On veut connaître la suite...Entre révélations, rebondissements, prises de conscience, retrouvailles, grands sentiments, remises en question, duplicité, trahisons..., on ne sait plus où donner de la tête.Le fil conducteur de ce dernier tome est la quête d'identité de l'héroïne (Est-elle vraiment née de parents humains ?... A-t-elle été créée par une force supérieure ?...). Elle est partagée entre ses émotions et ses devoirs... Heureusement, la présence et le soutien inconditionnel de celui qui a sû prendre une place essentielle dans sa vie et dans son coeur, vont souvent la remettre sur la bonne voie.On retrouve enfin toute la tribu "MacKeltar" au complet qui prend sa place dans le déroulement du récit (leurs caractères "bien trempés" étant le sujet de conflits permanents avec les autres groupes), ainsi qu'une petite incursion d'Adam Black (étant donné que c'est lui qui avait condamné Darroc à devenir mortel, j'aurais préféré le voir un peu plus tôt dans le récit)...K.M.Moning est une artiste. Elle accroche son lecteur jusqu'au bout du récit: on se dirigeait vers une fin "classique", mais l'histoire rebondit une fois de plus pour nous offrir des derniers rebondissements inattendus... Et, même si la trame principale semble résolue, d'autres évènements restent en suspens, nous donnant une fin ouverte et nous laissant présager une suite, très probablement dans (Iced: A Dani O'Malley Novel). Well defined and great storyline.Keeps the reader entranced till end of the book. Must read the rest of them
