A large and very beautiful journal - very impressive and if you want something truly beautiful to write in - keep your memories in - record important events in your life - describe lovely places or people you know - write down your favourite poetry - keep your best photos and highlights of your children and grandchildren - write down your best recipes you never wish to lose but want to pass on etc. etc. I have ordered a second one I was so pleased with the first and it is well worth every penny and looks good sitting on my book shelf.

Impressive!
This is a truly impressive journal, in size as well as quality and appearance. It imitates leather with golden print, and is even soft to the touch, as if one is really touching leather (although it is not, it is printed). The book has an antique look, perfect for a fantasy or historical reenactment, or anything that you would want to keep for life. It has thick, high quality paper which is great for Fountain pen use.

Perfect
Absolutely perfect notebook for what we were looking for. Got for my daughter who loves sketching and has a little bit if a quirky taste. She absolutely loved it. Definitely recommend.

Beautiful item but...
I purchased this item in June 2012 and am writing this review six months later.I love beautiful stationery. I purchased this journal for myself, to write the occasional entry - so far, I have only used 10 pages, so this gives an idea of how much use it has had, definitely not what you'd call 'intensive'.The journal is, in itself, a beautiful item; the cover is (I assume) leather-effect but very effective, and the motif/pattern is like a fine gold inlay. Esthetically beautiful, which, some would say, should be enough to justify the price. However, two disappointments:- after only using this journal very occasionally, one of the metal rivets (which secure the covers shut)has fallen off; is this a defect of this particular item or a general problem? Not many reviews of a similar problem from other users, so will give benefit of the doubt- more 'serious' for those who, like me, would have liked to use this journal to write their entries in ink: the paper, although nice to write on with in pencil or ballpoint pen, is far too absorbant for felt tip, let alone ink! One attempt at colouring in something on one page with felt tip pen and the whole thing has bled through the the other side and ruined the previous entry... Forget about using your lovely calligraphy ink pen, as the paper will soak in the ink and you suddenly find yourself with little ink spiders running along the page...What a disappointment - I would have thought that anyone who loves beautiful paper(given the beautiful appearance of the journal) would also love beautiful handwriting and woudl be likely to try a range of writing media before putting it on the market; a little info note/warning would have saved me from ruining the first few pages and paying £30 is a little expensive for a 'test run'- hope this helps someone else! Overall a beautifully crafted, effective item, so I give it a 4 stars, but if you are a calligrapher who uses ink, this will not work for you.

Beautifully crafted
This is quite simply one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen. The cover, spine and metal latches all contribute to an authentically antique look. With two ribbon book markers and a pocket in the back this book is great value for the price. The paper is of an excellent quality available in both lined and unlined. Lovers of beautiful stationary will cherish this as I know I have. Ideal for a grimoire or book of shadows.

Grand but for one tiny detail
First class. Another reviewer complained the two right hand side locks were prone to breaking but, once aware of this, you treat them nicely and they're fine. Paper great for pencil & biro; not tried ink yet.A4-sized tome ideal for note-making in large-hand, with large doodling, too. One small gripe: it has a fine frontal mediaeval appearance but the right hand long-side exposed page-sides have been decorated in a Victorian cash-register motif which is a bit off-putting.
