bolpol Loose Leaf Buffing wheel 6" x 80 leaf, its 1" (25mm) wide approximate Made from soft calico the individual layers on this wheel are attached only at the centre by a leather washer – except the 50mm wheel which is stitched to the centre. These wheels are made up of many layers of material called leaves (or leafs) of soft Calico and the width of the wheel is measured by the number the leafs; the more leafs the wider the wheel. These wheels are available in 40, 80, 120 leaf. During use the material fans out to cover a larger surface area and is usually used for the final finish with a low cut and high colour polishing compound. Suitable for use on soft and precious metals like Gold and Silver, it is equally suitable for use on Brass, Pewter, Copper, Chrome and Stainless steel. Used by modelmakers for polishing cast resins and hard plastics, it is also widely used by woodturners and woodcarvers for polishing items like bowls, where the pattern of wheel has to be soft and flexible enough to get into difficult or tight areas. The following is a guide only to the approximate equivalent of width per leaf numbers – 40 leaf = 13mm, 80 leaf = 25mm and 120 leaf = 35mm wide.
