The Author's Got "It"
I found a Blue Diamond. I've never read anything like this before and the only reaction I have is "Wow!" I've been interested in reading those Donald Goines books for some time now and a friend of mine suggested that I look up new author he called Legend or Legendary. BTW Very hard to find when you just google the name Legend. So I purchased "Dopefiend" by Goines and this book. Both are great reads but since I grew up in the late 80's in Los Angeles when gang culture was out of control, I was more familiar with "Young Locs" and the areas they terrorized in the book. This book is very raw and straightforward. I can tell this was the Authors first book. You can feel it as well. It reminds me of a Good Rappers first Album when they are still hungry and unpolished yet they unknowingly produce a Classic. I gave it a 5 Star on the Strength of Originality and the Authors potential greatness. He's got "It" The Authors writing style makes you feel like.... wow, you're on an Experience... OK I just got it. It just hit me, Legendary Experience, ahhhhh, Ok... Now on the flip side, don't look for anything traditional, like room description or clever back stories which this book is missing so I hope there is a Volume II so I can get to know the characters a little more and a few more questions can be answered. So overall I would give it a 4 Star... Without giving the story away, whomever post next, "Who is in that room?"

If you lived in Los Angeles, you can definitely relate to the characters and the situations they encounter. A good read.

A must read that will not disappoint.
Those of us who grew up on the West side of Los Angeles, during the 80's crack era, can relate to this compelling hood story. Ali Shabbazz's raw and rugged writing style, keeps the reader enthralled with its clever euphemisms and street savvy lingo. A must read that will not disappoint.
