Good cookbook for the dairy-free. But use common sense with some of the instructions!
First, I'm so happy that there's a Ketogenic cookbook that is dairy-free. I am lactose-intolerant and I really think it will make the difference between sticking to this way of eating and not. There's a lot of variety in this book to keep me cooking creatively which is important to me. I also like that the author didn't include recipes that simply substitute imitation cheeses. Even before I couldn't eat dairy I didn't like cheese and am so happy to see recipes not dependent on it.I've had the cookbook for 3 days and have tried several of the recipes. Last night I made 2 of them: Pork Chops with Dijon gravy on page 242, and Keto Custard on 339. The instructions for the Dijon gravy are to "Stir until slightly thickened". I knew that wasn't going to happen since it was just 2 ingredients; chicken broth and mustard. Let's just say it looked nothing like the picture which I think had to have been thickened for the purpose of the photo. Also, the gravy is white in the picture - don't know how that happened with 2 yellow ingredients! As for the custard recipe, there is a glaring mistake. The directions are to bake at 325° for "8 to 10 minutes". As an experienced cook I knew there is no way this could be accomplished. At the 10 minute mark the custard was still a liquid. I then took the 4 ramekins from the oven, added them to a pan filled with hot water (to the middle of the ramekins) and put them back in the oven. They were finally done "50" minutes later (1 hour in all). The custard is delicious but be aware it needs a lot more time in the oven than 10 minutes!Good cookbook and I'll enjoy using it. I just think common sense will have to prevail with some of the recipes.

Not a fan....yet
I have been very disappointed by what I am seeing in this book, but I do hope I will change my mind! If so, I will come back and give it more than 3 starl. I am giving it 3 stars because it is so well laid out with a great index, etc. I can't give it more than that because I just do not find very many things at all that even appeal to me by looking through this book. For example, a protein shake with 4 hard-boiled eggs in it? YUCK. I had to turn the page quickly!Compared to other keto cookbooks I have bought, THIS one is way more complicated. I am VERY surprised by all the positive reviews. It just makes me wonder how much these people are REALLY using this book on a daily basis.I have HAD to cook from scratch for almost 6 years now so my special cookbooks are my guide for every meal. I think I am a pretty good judge on what is "simpler" and what is more complicated. I define "complicated" by: how much prep is required? Does this recipe include ingredients I have on hand or will I have to go to the store? (I live 30 minutes from a grocery store) Will the needed ingredients be easy to find or will I have to drive an HOUR to a Whole Foods to get them, OR order them from Amazon? Is this something my family will eat? SO FAR....I would put THIS cookbook in the more complicated category, as well as in the category of, "Well, I MIGHT find something I can use, but the jury is still out on this one."I have used another keto cookbook that I love, but I cannot do all the dairy. So far it's looking like I can alter those recipes to be dairy-free a lot more than I will be able to use this cookbook.I appreciate all the time and effort the author has put into writing this book and if it works for her and others who have purchased it, I am happy for all of you. The book is beautifully done, so well organized, very informative, and I feel she added a personal touch. For all of that, I would give her 5 stars, easily! But for what I paid, and knowing I probably won't use it that much....I can't justify an overall 5 stars.I'm not giving up. I'm going to TRY. And if I change my mind, I will gladly come back and update my review! :-)

Swerve away from this book.
I was so excited to get this book. I looked through every recipe and 99% of them call for Swerve. This a sugar substitute. Why you need sugar in chili is beyond me. The whole reason I want to eat keto dairy free is to eat healthier. I do NOT want a sugar or a sugar substitute in my food. I returned the item and was charged a restocking fee. Very disappointed all around.

This book is confusing. It raised more questions than answers for me.
I chose 2 stars for this book but 2 1/2 stars would be my accurate star grade. These stars are for the beautiful food photography and some ideas about things to do with boiled eggs that are excellent. Right, these are just my opinions, and I am not knocking in any way the keto diet and it's principles, so I want to make this clear. My 2 stars reflect that: a) Ms Emmerich does not give enough clearly stated information regarding this eating principle. She writes about fat intake in such a confusing way that I was left none the wiser - I completely understood the need for a large amount of healthy fat in proportion to protein and healthy carbs, but she doesn't make these concepts fully comprehensible; b) given the information outlined at the onset, her recipes then don't reflect this essential fat/protein/carb ethos. Yes, the recipes are good, but, as a beginner, I need ones that follow true keto principles. Perhaps I missed something? Perhaps I've spent far too long engrossed in academic study, and have lost all common sense? Ivory towers can mess with your thinking - just joking. But, with Ms Emmerich, things just don't add up correctly in my eyes; c) I am presuming the photo, near the start of this book, of the woman strolling in the shallows, is Ms Emmerich. If so, I would say - and again this is my opinion - that she's underweight and the sight of her extremely thin body, granted with some muscle mass, is not a great recommendation for this book. Women are not supposed to be this thin, and frankly, after working with women who have eating disorders - an illness of epidemic proportions in wealthy western societies, and so hard to treat - the site of her childlike body shocked me. Some body fat is essential, and it's attractive. She looks as if she's joined the below 100 LB club. Perhaps it's an unfortunate photograph, they can be deceptive, but in this one she does not look healthy. Overall, this book was a let down for me. Many may find it helpful, but it raised more questions than answers. However, if you want to work miracles with boiled eggs, and learn an excellent way of cooking them, then I believe it has some value.

Amazing and mouth watering recipes
I love Maria’s blog and I own couple of her other cookbooks. I have made many recipes from the cookbooks and as always, the end products were delicious. This book join the triumph of her other work, no doubt. I was so happy to find out this one because I follow a diary-free lifestyle but not my family. I can now enjoy food with my family as I cook for them. I never thought to make an amazing shake or pancake with the ingredients she listed. Amazing. P.S there is a picture for every recipes, which is something I look for when buying cookbooks.
