Nice, But Not Fast
Sometimes, you don't really know something until you actually start to use it. Such is the case with this Walther PPX liner lock knife.First of all, the knife looks great; out of the box, it has a very nice, all black design that is compact, ergonomic, looks great clipped to your pocket, and sports the iconic Walther branding. The grip of the knife is styled after the grip on the Walther PPX pistol, which is pretty damn cool in my book. On the downside, I feel they could have used a sturdier material in that grip. As it is, it kind of seems like cheap plastic, although I might be wrong. One thing I don't like is the speed of the knife on opening. I carry a knife primarily for self-defense, as I live in Commiefornia where due to the ruling apparatchiks, only criminals get to carry guns without risking prison time. Because of that, I want a blade that will instantly and effortlessly deploy when I need it. I find that this knife is a little slow on the draw, as you need to use your thumb on the flipper studs of the blade in order to get it to unfold. With another liner lock that I have, there is also a protrusion on the back of the blade that sticks out slightly above the handle. This allows you to flip the blade open instantly with just your index finger. The liner lock release is also nicer on that knife, as it is almost like a button and is much easier to access. Now, with those drawbacks mentioned, I will say that, at least so far, I like the knife. I figure that with some practice and a little machine oil, I can get that blade to flip open nearly as fast as my other knife. ;)
