More Music than TOTP 2!
I really hope they make this book into a film because the score will be brilliant! There's more music in this book than the entire series of Top of the Tops 2!Aside from the music, the book is well written, the story is touching in some parts, rowdy in others and I enjoyed it all.A great read and I'll be keeping my copy to read it again - always a good sign!!

Not what I expected.
This book has a lot of musical memories which I did enjoy. Wasn't too thrilled about him describing one drug trip after another. How did he ever get himself back to real life without any rehab? I was glad he reunited with his parents . Didn't care about the automobiles either. This book was not what I expected. It was boring in parts and thought about ending it several times but I didn't.

Damaged Good... A book for a generation
I have seen a whole lots of books but this is an unusual book that is able to impact this generation and that which is coming behind. I recommend this book for every one. It does not cost to buy a life time of impact. This book will never leave you the same way.

little boy, Journey
This is a wonderful book. Although the story contains things I'm wouldn't want to be familiar with (such as drugs, some fighting and general misbehaviour) the way it is written and the overall message is one of hope, love and finally peace. It's a great read I really enjoyed it.

Ends in a ramble of photo inspired photos
I really enjoyed the childhood memories which I share and remembered from growing up in suburbs on the other side of London.

A Great Book
I never read too many books, but I have to say I really liked reading this one. I highly recommend this book to anyone. This book gives a great message to the reader as well.

A great read - real, gritty and a good cultural reference
I didn't know exactly what to expect from the book, although I knew it was about the author's adoption...Although the author does write about his experiences of adoption and all that it may entail, I think the book was much more about the relationships that the author chose and also found himself in throughout his life (so far).I think it showed how situations can easily unfold, and without realising, one may find oneself in a messy and crazy underground web facing very real dangers. Some of the sections were brilliantly gritty and extremely real, making you feel like you were right there in the action...It shows the very human highs and lows, but through his own will-power and perseverence he triumphed in the story of his own life, which is what everyone hopes for...I loved the cultural references, and although I wasn't of an age to enjoy the 80s, it gave me an interesting insight into British youth in the 70s/80s...Finally it showed how one man picked himself up, dusted himself off, and started all over again...

Damaged goods but not a damaged person
I grew up in the same village as the author and knew him well as he frequented my dads pub with all of the other characters in the book. I still see him now and despite everything life dealt him he has become one of the nicest, most well balanced people I have met. This is not a review to kiss Jay's arse as he has been a very bad man but inside was always a loyal, strong character who would help anyone who asked. I have seen him evolve from the slightly mad and magnetic character into the rounded person he is today. If you grew up in the 80's you will find many things in this book to remind you of those times, the music, the lifestyle, the drugs and the friendships. Like all things some last and others fade as if they were never really there.

couldn't put it down
A brilliantly written account of a youth spent existing in the moment and then challenging what it's all about. A heartfelt and honest reflection on life, choices and consequences that I couldn't put down until I finished it.

Great if you know the pepole personaly. Characters if unknown need more input from the authour as the story doesnt have a meaning to the reader. X
