Non Essential Doom
This is definitely not the place to start for Candlemass DVDs. Messiah remains their best and most iconic vocalist. Check out Documents of Doom and The Curse Of Candlemass first. This DVD features a variety of vocalists: Tomas Vikstrom - who resembles a poor pub band singer, JB - whose voice does not suit Candlemass style, Mats Leven - good voice later to become full time Candlemass vocalist, Michael Akerfeldt (Opeth), Robert Lowe - who sang on King Of The Grey Islands to Psalms For The Dead era stuff, Johan Langquist - the original vocalist from their Epicus Doomicus Metallicus debut and the only reason to buy this DVD is to see his performance! Tony Martin (ex Black Sabbath), yes Leif we know you're a big Sabbath fan, but Ozzy was their only true singer, so where was Messiah and where was Bjorn Flodquist - the guy who sang on Dactylis Glomerata and From The 13th Sun? One for those who must own everything, but only buy if price is cheap!!!

My first encounter with the Doom legends
Having heard good things about this influential band, I decided to give them a try and thought this DVD would be a great place to start. As it features to former vocalists and the current vocalist as well as two of my favourite vocalists (Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth & Tony Martin formerly of Black Sabbath) this DVD could give me a broader experience than any of their releases. Having purchased this and watched it beginning to end a fair few times I am happy with my original decision. Since purchasing this I have gone on to buy "Nightfall" and love that album. But songs such as "Where the Runes Still Speak" tend to drag along longer than necessary and leave the listener a little bored, as the riffs just seem to feel tedious after a while" Also may I add that the production of this DVD is the thing that lets it down the most, both in Video and Audio. They both seem very amateur, and the audio has definitely not been touched post production as the mix is fairly bad in places with vocals being buried beneath layers of bad guitar tone and distant drums. Having said this, the majority of the music on this DVD is great and the DVD has a lot of bonus interview footage hence the four star review, but be wary of the above point before purchasing.Enjoy

Great cover but ......
Disappointed .....Hail to Candlemass, kings and former of the doom metal !Low level dvd, bad sound/vocal and with no Messiah at all.The title "CANDLEMASS 20 year anniverary" should mean a full documentary from the beginning. Try to compare with dvds from ect Cannibal Corpse or Sodom to get good standard, clips, humor and vital informations from start to nowadays. Here you only get 50 min extras with some random interwievs, no good.I could not finish the dvd and therefore this dvd is going out with my garbage.Candlemass lives on my 5 LPs ended up with the live-LP from 90 and in my memories with great concerts playing with ect King Diamond !Perhaps I should try to find the DVD in my thrash again, get really drunk and THEN see if I can find something positive but I doubt seriously !!
