High quality unit, easily adapted for low throughput running.
A well designed and well made unit. I wanted a large diameter fan for its quiet running and long life, my previous experience with 6" fans being that they die after about a year. This one is well balanced and takes a long time to come to a standstill after the power is removed, indicating that the bearings are good. The shutter actuator is an electro-thermal piston, and consumes about 2 W, allowing the control box to be remote from it. The motor is a 2 phase capacitor type, using a 2.5 uF run capacitor, so can be connected to turn either way. I didn't buy the optional controller, but actually plan to run it at low power most of the time. To this end I tried connecting various capacitors between D and M2 and found that somewhere between 1.8 and 4 uF is good for a low setting. I measured the motor current at 410 mA on full flow (94 VA at 230V), and 209 mA with 2.3 uF in series (48 VA). I left it on soak test with a series capacitor for a few days, and there were no problems.
