MUST HAVE!
I NEVER leave reviews for products. But this is review worthy. I'm a passionate bird momma and I rescue, rehabilitate and rehome birds in need. I have 7 babies of my own and have been wanting to try these for awhile. It's been a dreary winter and we noticed our conure starting to chew his belly feathers, which has never happened before. I decided it was time to finally buy some of these lights. I bought two of them. I actually need to buy one or two more since I have multiple cages, but I didn't want to buy a ton of them and not like them. Well .... now I wish I would have just bought as many as I needed because I love them and now they're out of stock and I have to wait. I didn't find them to be flimsy or cheap feeling AT ALL. As a matter of fact, I found them to be the complete opposite. The base is more than heavy enough to keep it stable and it feels really secure and good quality. They came packaged nicely and were easy to put together. Within minutes of turning these lights on, my birds were SO active and SO happy. We have an older amazon and she doesn't do much most of the time. She is a chatter box but she isn't very active and she very very rarely will even think about touching the toys in her cage. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times that she even touched one of them for more than 1 minute. Within minutes of this light being on above her cage she was DESTROYING the biggest shredding toy in her cage, which she hadn't touched once before. She shredded that thing for a good 30 minutes straight. I was literally MIND BLOWN because that is so unlike her and we've never EVER seen her do that before. It was amazing. My other birds were acting like little clowns. So playful and active and clearly just very happy. I wasn't expecting to see results THAT FAST but my goodness .... it was like night and day. I had totally different birds the moment those lights turned on. 1,000% recommend these for all birds. I think every bird should have one and I'm sad that I waited so long to finally buy these. I can't wait to get a few more! Seriously, if you are considering buying one of these .... PLEASE DO! I'll be recommending them to everyone and I now feel like it's a necessity for all bird owners. PLEASE GET YOUR BIRDS ONE OF THESE LIGHTS!!! Well done ZooMed!

So far, so good!
I got this for my Eclectus parrot, who's about 23 now. Despite tons and tons of avian vet visits, he's been a light plucker (around his neck) since he was 2 or so. In the past 5 years, he developed pretty severe dermatitis and his plucking got much worse. He's been in and out of collars, but it's gotten out of control lately. My poor friend is so itchy and it's heartbreaking. I've always kept him by a quiet sunny window, but I've been thinking he hasn't been getting the benefits. Before he gets the collar again, I figured I'd give this a try.I let the light run for a day and then moved it closer to his cage, but have kept it at the recommended distance for the first little while. It's been about a week now. The change has been immediate! He's less squawky, chatters more, is more comfortable staying in his cage... and he even... seems less itchy. I'll hold off on saying it's fixed anything until he's had the light for longer, but he's been hanging out with me all day and has only itched under his wing once.Maybe it doesn't fix his plucking or his skin problems, maybe it does. But he seems happier and that's worth the cost.If I had a complaint, it'd be that the design is utilitarian, not really terribly attractive. Would've been nice to be in a darker color to match the cage, maybe? But I like the features, it's easy to use, and it's relatively easy to position. Has a good heavy base, so I'm not worried about knocking it over, and the power cable is kept hidden so that you don't have to worry about your bird chewing it. Unlike a lot of other lamps, it has a reflective lampshade so that you can target the light where it needs to go and get the most out of it. All in all, a great purchase!

My birds love it
Bought two because I have four tame birds and one not tame. They were afraid of lights at first. Started out only on for short time over two cages and switched the birds in and out of each cage instead of moving the lights. Cages are large so lights were over them not on sides as it says not to do. After a week birds were not afraid any more so leaving on longer. Ring neck that came from rescue and plucked had stopped plucking here but feathers are slow to grow back. Two weeks of the light that is only on 20 min over her because so much skin I notice her feathers look much better and she loves sitting under the light. She is not tame and now jumps on the perch so I can put her in cage under the light. It is fantastic. Wish I had bought these lights a long time ago. Leaving on longer every week.

Improved model lamp, much more stable
I had an older version of this zoo med lamp. It was ok and did the job, but was always wobbly and easily tipped over. One day it tipped and crashed and no more lamp. So, I ordered a new one. There are not a lot of options for bird lamps. To my surprise, the lamp has been redesigned. It is now sturdy with a heavier, stable base and a well-placed on/off switch. Now it is easy to move and does not tip over.
