Would you recommend this item to store a wedding dress?

The MOST important part of storing your wedding gown is having it professionally dry cleaned. It need not be fully pressed, that is the expensive part, but you may want it steamed a bit. Then, you need to consider an acid free container (and acid free tissue paper between the folds) that will seal out dust, sunlight, water, condensation, bugs, and rodents. For the duration of its storage, the garment should be protected from the elements of extreme heat, temperature changes, moisture, insects, and rodents. The boxes the dry cleaner will use are very heavy and designed to protect your dress, but they are not magic. They are not vacuum packed or hermetically sealed. They are just cleaned, folded, and the box is sealed with tape. You can do it yourself. Having the cleaner do it just makes sense because they know what they are doing. It costs a lot to have the dress cleaned, research the process, collect the supplies, and get the job done well and right. I have a degree in clothing and textiles, worked at a dry cleaning plant for 7 years, and I still had them clean and pack my wedding dress. Hope that helps.

Does the boxes have strong plastic smell?

I LOVE my "iwill" CREATE PRO Collapsible Rigid Storage Baskets!!  They have come in so useful.  I just ordered 2 more yesterday.  No, there is NO PLASTIC SMELL, because they are Linen, and the rigid bottom & sides are great for standing up straight.  Just unzipped the top and fill what you want to.  I like the handles and the little place I can write the contents on the side, which is in a little plastic holder. These are great!!!

Do you get two boxes or just one?

Not sure which box[es] you are interested in.  I have bought several of this brand and love the construction.  If you are referring to the ones with a clear plastic zip cover you get 2 boxes - if you are referring to the small skinny box with a lid cover you get just one box.
