It is different than a heating pad but gets warm. It has helped us with lower and upper back pain. It is very flexible and has a nice weight. The coverage is nice- it goes from shoulder to shoulder. There are different setting and a timer. It is of good quality and seems durable. FYI- There is a caution not to look at the LED lights.

It REALLY works on areas of pain. Try it. Doesn't work on everything, but we use ours all the time. Only reason 4 stars not 5 is connection cord isn't connecting anymore. To be fair it's a couple years old and we used it a lot!! We liked it so much we have bought several as gifts.
