Tress of the emerald sea
What a gorgeous & sumptuous read. A whole different voice Brandon Sanderson’s conjures up, taking us on a ride that starts with quiet comfort; a reflection on the beauty of the mundane. Building into a far reaching adventure, backing the boldest and best of human virtues. With wonderful twists and newly imagined world at first terrifying, but as with all/most things, a bit of knowledge well applied changes everything.I don’t think I’ve highlited a book so much before! for both the almost off hand deep insights into human nature as well as the laugh out load humour. From one satisfied and delighted reader to I hope soon to be another.

Brilliant, genius, delightful.
One of the greatest fantasy writers in the history of the English language delivers another astoundingly well written book, full of beautiful insights, delightful lines, and an incredibly unique world.I must have highlighted around twenty passages in this book. Some just for the brilliance of the writing, and some for the profound insight into the human condition.I’ve been reading fantasy all my life, but I’ve never read a book that made me sigh in pleasure the way this book has. The way it’s written… the way Brandon plays with the words, like they’re dancing for him. It’s so beautiful to read. This is the writing equivalent of a skateboarder doing an impossible trick after they already won the competition. They do it because they can, because it’s fun, and it’s amazing to witness.I read this in two sittings, and I’m amazed I was able to put it down at all. It will certainly not be the last time I read it. What a world. What a writer.

The cosmere gets whimsical and funnier than ever before
A fun and charming tale narrated by hoid, this is a fun and fluffy book that you can tell isn't taking itself to seriously, great world building and magic system you have come to expect from sanderson, a nice pallet cleaner if your moving between series.

fantastic book
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it over a couple of days during a difficult time. As an avid reader of Brandon Sanderson, I’ve really enjoyed the evolution and mystery behind the narrator. The book is whimsical, funny, exciting and even relatively deep in the off hand slices of philosophy cast out by the narrator. Well developed world building that creates a unique stage for the action to take place on. Tress is a character that I routed for and I enjoyed her successes. I’m looking forward to the next instalment of the secret projects and am forever grateful that one of my favourite authors remains so prolific.

Fun fantasy swashbuckling
Great story, strong female lead, enjoyable twists and turns. Very minor criticism is that some of the fantasy elements feel a bit forced and less believable, partly because the characters are relatable and believable, that juxtaposition can be a tiny bit jarring. 4 stars from me means Great!

Enchanting and Charming... Encharming?
What a lovely book!I have read Elantris, Warbreaker, all of the Stormlight Archive books currently available (including the spinoffs) and the first era of Mistborn.Tress has the usual Sanderson feels, the epic escalation 70ish% through, the measurable and distinct magic system, the amazing character development. But it also had a charm that reminded me of reading Sir Terry Pratchett by torchlight as a child with a sprinking of the swashbuckling adventures of "red seas under red skies" (Scott Lynch). Loads of easter eggs if you are an avid Sanderson reader! Top tier fantasy in my opinion!

Excellent read.
Everyone describes this book as a cozy fantasy. I finally understand. The story kind of gives me the same kind of feelings that watching the early parts of Lord of the rings and The Hobbit give me. It feels very homey and satisfying. The narrative is told in a way that feels like a friend or a kind stranger regaling you with a tale. Tress and Charlie have a sweet relationship that some might describe as adorkable. I love the themes of self-discovery in this book. Most of the sad characters are also enjoyable. My only complaint about this would be that there are some terms that aren't explained but I know that that has to do with references to Sanderson's book universe the cosmere.
