Great YA Sci-Fi That Adults Can Enjoy Too
Tanis Ashley Nikana’s debut novel, “Forming A Better Maybe”, is a page turner set in present day Portland, Oregon. She’s managed to weave a convincing narrative with superb character development, and then makes the characters believable as they are thrust into a nearly unbelievable series of events. Somehow the sky has become hard and rigid, and pieces are falling to Earth, leaving survivors wondering what has happened and how to deal with their new reality. From believable characters to good pacing and story-telling, this should be a great story for the young adult readership. Even older readers will be caught up in the story and the search to find out why the sky has seemingly betrayed them. When the conclusion is finally revealed, it’s done in an interesting way that leaves the reader with even more questions and even the urge to continue the story themselves to further elaborate on the lives of the main characters after the story in the book has ended. There are a few little bumps in the road that may require the suspension of belief to get through, but they are few and far between. I highly recommend this novel as a great read especially for YA audiences, but for older readers as well.
