Headwind EZRead 26” Giant Professional Outdoor rain Gauge, USA Made Heavy Duty All Weather Freeze Proof mountable with Float, Green (820-0002)

I first purchased this gauge quite a number of years ago. I liked the large size and that I could read it easily from inside my home--from a distance of 30 feet or so. I used it in the first location for 4 or 5 years, and then moved it to a second location for another period of at least 5 years or more. I'm not sure of the exact age of my original unit but I know I had it for at least 10 years. For the first few years I took it down during winter, but after I changed locations I left it out year-round. The only thing that changed over the years was the little orange float inside the gauge gradually faded from the original bright orange to a much lighter color. The gauge tube, holder and cup on top remained perfect, and the markings remained easily readable. In September 2023 we had a severe hail storm with some really large hail and high wind. The large green collection cup on top of the tube got knocked off by hail and the wind blew it completely away--couldn't find it anywhere. I immediately set out to find a duplicate rain gauge, and this one is identical to my first one in every respect. I don't know if this one will last another 10+ years, but if it does it may outlast me. This has been an excellent item and unusually durable; I can certainly recommend it.

This is my second one. The first was 15-20 years old and its mount was lost when the fence it was attached to was replaced. The float appears to have been improved over the years as well as multiple color choices. While the original float faded some over the years the numbers and marks were still very readable from 20+ feet away.

This is a replacement rain gauge (same gauge) for one we've had for several years. The old one worked great. I could easily read it from inside the house. When we rebuilt our deck, we replaced the faded one with a new one which I know will work well for many years.

Very easy to read and understand. Would not leave it out when the temps drop below freezing.

Device is not “freeze proof” but I knew that when I purchased it. Any statement saying that should be removed from description. It is very easy to see. I am happy with it.

It was purchased as a Xmas gift after much research by the end user a scientist. Based on that I would say its a good quality piece of equipment.

Rain guage you read a mile away

Price at time of review: $16.13 The weather nerd in me was getting frustrated that I didn't know how much rain we had gotten in each storm so I set out in search of a rain gauge. I settled on this one for it's large size and "Magnification" making the rain amounts easy to read. I mounted the gauge on the side of my raised garden bed at the back of my yard about 30 feet from my house. The gauge has a red floating disc and clear bold font. I can read the rain fall amount from any window on the north side of my house. I love that I can even see it from my bedroom on the second story. It comes with all the hardware to install the gauge mount. The gauge then slides down into the holder. After a rain fall, you just lift the gauge our of the holder and invert to empty/reset it for the next storm. The red disk does a good job of covering most of the water in the gauge so it won't evaporate before you get to check the amount of water. My only complaint would be that it's in inches only. I can do the conversion to mm in my head but in an updated version including cm would be welcome especially for us Canadians.

This rain gauge does what it’s supposed to, good quality, but not what I expected for the dollars spent.

DEFINITELY NOT WORTH $30

I had it for one season now and it's so much easier than using tuna cans etc. In my area the grass needs about one inch of water per week to stay healthy. So, if I don't get that I will have to water until this fills up to the one inch line from the sprinklers. VERY inexpensive yet effective method to keep on top of your water bill. Plus water is a natural resource you don't want to waste anyway. This definitely helps.
