Barry Pickthall has produced a well researched manual for anyone cruising or racing across oceans. It is a book you can dip in and out with ease and the racing slant gives an extra dimension. It is full of great pictures, useful check-lists and top tips. A very useful reference on-board any yacht and I will be making space in the boats library for a copy

I was quite disappointed with this book. If you are interested in racing, racing techniques, trimming a yacht for racing, etc., then this book would be perfect. BUT for the 'normal' blue-water cruising type, there is very little of real interest, a few good tips, but there are many other books available with better advice & experience sharing for those interested in sailing the oceans - just for fun, not to get there as fast as possible!
