My sons would have been surprised a lot less, if Derek had written this book a few years ago!This book is fully packed with no-nonsense advice coming from a man with a huge heart. Caring, thoughtful, straightforward, understanding and at the same time, challenging you to do better and do things smarter. In every areas of life I can think of! It is also very very easy to read. It flows as a book, to read from the beginning to the end, and it also works as a guide, as it is really easy to find JUST the topic you need help with.I have some teenager coaching clients, I am getting this book for each and every one of them and will also let all my friends with adolescents know about it.It is definitely a book to have in every home with teens on the way to adulthood.

This book is perfect for several reasons. It is perfect because it takes so many life lessons learned throughout many years and many rounds of trial and error, and it lays it all out in one book - organized by chapter and life hack!It is also perfect because it comes in the guise of an author who knows what he is talking about, not a parent - who knows nothing - and could give their teen this exact advice and not be taken seriously at all.This book is also perfection in that it runs the gamut when it comes to giving life hack info - I live that it includes cars! Wish I had been given this book as a teen!This book is also perfect to use in a homeschool setting for teens - I myself am adding it into my homeschool high school English class - weekly life hack learning snippets that they don’t even realize they are getting!Highly recommend this book for teens…parents…college students…homeschoolers…and anyone who could use a piece of life advice!

This is the second book I’ve read from this author, and I appreciate it very much.When it comes to navigating high school, we all know there are a lot of ups and downs. I think many of us look back at our our high school years fondly, but also cringe as we remember most portions of it.The high school generation nowadays has a completely different lifestyle than we did, and completely different concerns. I love that this one is updated for teens to survive in this technology advanced world.If you have a teenager, get this book.

I LOVED this book! I read it first, then went over all 88 Life Changing Hacks with my two teens. I went over the hacks like I was teaching them a class on it. Every hack has explanations, that are easy to understand for teens to read themselves, if that's how you choose to do it. I homeschool my teens, so teaching them these hacks was super easy and fun to do! What were my teens' responses to the book: "Refreshing information I can really use." said my 15 year old son, and 14 year old daughter replied, "for once...a book that's not boring with stuff I need to know!" If a self-help book can have THAT response from MY teens, (who read murder mystery books and fantasy most of the time) then it's worth the read!

This book is chock full of great tips and advice for teens (and even those of us WAY past the teenage years)! Things I wish I had known back then and will even be able to apply now. I love the divisions in the book to separate the different sections into easily-digestible chunks of material. It's easy to skim to the parts you need most now or to read bit by bit as you have time. Too many great tips to list all here in this brief review, but everything from study habits, healthy living, great attitude and personal relationship advice to buying your first car! Amazing! I also love that these are great reinforcements for things parents tell their kids, but that kids will often take better coming from a different adult. Great job, Derek!

It’s a book that promises to be a reliable companion through the teen years and beyond.

I find this book very easy and fun to read. I can spend a couple of hours reading it from chapter to chapter or pick up any “Hack” to read for a few minutes. This book covers many topics, such as study habits, healthy living, personal relationships, and advice on buying your first car. It contains excellent tips, helpful information, and exciting hands-on ideas to experiment with. The personal stories are easily related, and quotes from famous people are inspiring. It's a fantastic book!

I brought this for my teenage son who is in his first year of high school. He loved it and started reading it the night he got it. Would recommend.

This is a great book, with lots of friendly and helpful advice on a vast array of subjects to do with becoming a more independent young person.Like his previous book, it is written in a tone which straddles the line between being adult and also being in the young person's level without ever going into the realm of 'cringe'. You never feel he's talking down to his reader, nor do you feel he's too far removed from them. I think this is something that young people will appreciate.The book is cleverly set out so you can either read through or dip in and out and would be easy for anyone to navigate. The advice is sensible and never patronizing and is a really thorough guide.It's something you could buy for any young person but especially someone who needs that little bit of extra help with the process of becoming an adult and all that this entails.

There are so many handy hacks in here for all ages! And so funny! I laughed out loud so many times - scared my cat.
